Wednesday Hodgepodge: Age Is Just a Number

1. In a single sentence tell us something about your 40's. If you haven't reached that milestone yet tell us (in a single sentence) something about whatever decade you're in now.  It was a hard, hard period in my life that at times I thought would kill me.

2. Life begins at forty. Agree or disagree? Tell us why. And if not at forty, when?  It didn't for me. Our family was going through a lot of painful things through those years. I'd say 50 is when I felt released from most of those things and I began to believe it really was going to get better.

3. Share a favorite book, song, or quote with a number featured in it somewhere.

4. A picture's worth a thousand words, a stitch in time saves nine, back to square one, catch-22, on cloud nine, my two cents...pick a number phrase and tell us how it applies to your life currently.  I choose "a picture's worth a thousand words, because I think this picture says all the love and words my two youngest grandchildren fill my heart with.

5. Last time you drove more than 40 miles from home? More than 400 miles from home? Where were you going? Was it before or after this current season of social distancing?  It's been so long I can't remember where we might have been going. As for the 400 miles from home...last year when we drove to Baltimore to go on a cruise, I think. It was all before social distancing. I haven't been any farther from home than the local Walmart since all this started in March.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  We are opening up very slowly here. There isn't much to do other than more stores are open. I admit I'm looking forward to the thrift shops opening today and plan to be there when the doors open this morning...just because it's something different to do and because I do like "treasure hunting."

Other than that I'd ask you to pray for those in need this morning. The images coming out of Michigan this morning are terrible. Can you imagine dealing with the flooding while dealing with the pandemic? Those people are probably feeling completely overwhelmed this morning.

Also, keep the Navajo Nation in prayer. The Navajo people are dear to my heart as I was out there twice for mission trips back in the early 2000's. They have become the hot spot for the epidemic with more infections per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. The problem is the area encompassed in the Navajo reservation is larger than West Virginia, overlaps 4 states and it is rife with poverty. Many homes have a large number of family members of multiple generations living together and many have no electricity or running water.

  1. I haven't read the news yet, didn't know that about Michigan...indeed, keeping the Navajo Nation in prayer.

Have a beautiful day friend. I'll have to do the HP tomorrow.

  2. I hadn't heard about Michigan either, but will go check out that story. It's been a tough year all the way around, hasn't it. And it's only May. It's teaching me to really stay on my knees that's for sure. I love that picture of your grands! So precious!

  3. I hadn't heard about Michigan … but will certainly keep them both in my prayers! So much sadness, there's little else to do. I'm getting notifications of estate sales opening back up, but that's always guaranteed to draw crowds and I'm just not ready to trust my fellow stranger.

  4. I just checked the news and it isn't even in the headlines!! It should be. So devastating. I can't believe that! How horrible. I can't imagine dealing with that much water at any time, especially now. I pray for these people to get help and no deaths. Your picture with the grandchildren is precious!

  5. The news showed Michigan and it is sad but I have not seen anything about the Navajo nation. I will have to check with my DIL because she is 1/2 Navajo. After reading what you said in the 40's I realize that it was also my worse time because I was going through depression. There is an "antique store" in my area that we like to visit. Hubby and I like to go to Old Town Orange which is filled with antique stores. There is a thrift store there too that I like to look at and have found some cool things. I like vintage cosmetic cases.

  6. I saw some horrible photos of the Chicago River overflowing in downtown Chicago. Michigan too. Prayers for all in need, including the Navajo Nation. This has been an interesting Hodgepodge.

  9. Love your photo, definitely worth 1,000 words.

As if Michigan didn't have enough trouble with Flint and the virus, now they have flooding....

  10. That picture is precious and says a lot for sure. That Michigan dam issue is heartbreaking. My forties was a trying time, too. Hope the rest of your week and weekend go well.

  11. Such a sweet photo of you and your grands! I know they are the apples of your eye! Yeah, my 40's were horrible too. Actually, I think they were the worst decade of my life. I had been battling secondary infertility since I was 33, and as my 40's set in and that proverbial biological clock ticked onward, I grew ever more despondent. The Lord finally gave me peace about no more children when I was 3 months away from turning 50!

    Blessings to you!
