Five Things

1. Physical therapy has really helped with my leg pain. The stretches alone seemed to mostly do the trick. Yesterday we started concentrating on strengthening the IT band. Not so much fun, but if it helps keep me from going back to the pain...

2.  Leah's 1st birthday party is tomorrow (her actual birthday is the 29th). I've got to get the ingredients to make baked beans and pasta salad today. This afternoon I get to blow up a zillion balloons to make a balloon arch.

3.  Still riding the high of meeting my brother on Wednesday and introducing Megan, Colton, and Leah to everyone. And Megan asked last night if we could go up again on a weekend so Cody could go. She wants to take Colton to my father's place to fish with him in the pond.

4.  Still no pool. Getting really irritated about it, too. It was just last Saturday that we were told "the end of this week."

5.  Meeting up with 2 of Tim's sisters and a family friend for a girls' lunch in just a bit. Since they toughened up the restrictions due to Covid-19 again, restaurants can only have dine-in customers at 25% capacity. We're planning to be the first ones in line when the doors open so we get a table.

Five Things on Friday

1. I have been awake since 3:30 this morning. My legs have been acting up in the night lately and I just couldn't get back to sleep. It's going to be a long day.

2. Tim is working today. It's his paid holiday since the 4th falls on the weekend, but some of the subcontractors wanted to work because they don't get the day as a paid holiday. Tim will get double time for it an d it's not like we had any plans for today, so it's all good.

3. Got a call from Tim at 6:30 this morning. His friend is coming today to level the yard for the pool! I hope that will mean we can get the installer to come at the beginning of the week. The temps are supposed to be 90+ for at least the next week. It would sure be nice to have the pool now.

4. My father is home and resting. He's taking some meds and doing okay from what I hear. My half-sister will be arriving at his place today and staying the weekend.

5. The only thing on my agenda today is heading out to the store as soon as it opens and getting what I need to make taco salad and a dessert for tomorrow's picnic.

Five Things

1.  I think I forgot to tell you back on Monday that I spoke to my biological father on the phone for the first time. That's right, I heard his voice. It was an old man's voice (he is 81) but still strong and vibrant. It was a short call. He just wanted to touch base with me about the possibility of meeting in person now that he is back in Pennsylvania. 

I can't tell you how much it meant to hear the excitement in his voice after believing my whole life that he didn't want me. He may be more excited than I am. At this point, I am hoping to go visit him the weekend after the Fourth of July.

2.  I'm saddened that we've had to say goodbye to another blogging friend. Patti from Writing to Remember posted a farewell message on Wednesday. All of the negative feelings that are running amok these days were stressing her and brought her to the point of feeling it necessary to bid goodbye to all social media. She said she felt we'd be better off as a society without it. I can understand that. Social media is like many other things in our modern world. It can be an instrument of good or in times like these it can be a platform for our worst behavior. I will miss Patti's sweet presence and lovely family memories.

3.  Megan is consumed by plans for Leah's first birthday next month. She is planning a monster party...more of a big summer get-together than Leah's birthday celebration, I'm thinking. Everyone they know is invited. There will be food, of course, though what kind is up in the air. Megan is talking catered. I'm trying to talk grilling hotdogs and burgers or having everyone bring a covered dish. Yesterday a huge bouncy house with a slide and a few other features was rented. A huge fireworks show has been promised. I'm sure the neighbor's will be thrilled.

This is one of the times I agree that social media can be bad. So many of the young women see stuff like this on social media and become convinced this kind of thing is the norm.

4.  Mom and I went to an estate sale yesterday. There were no bargains. Everything was priced at top dollar. Everything will be 50% off tomorrow and I will still think it priced too high. The only things I bought were a lid to replace one I lost for my big Tupperware bowl for $3 and a little bag of cookie cutters for $5.

5. Mom and I are going to an auction tomorrow. It's the contents of a house and it looks to be a good sale. The annual community yard sales of a neighboring town are tomorrow, too. We usually ALWAYS go to that so it was a hard choice, but the weather helped us decide. It's supposed to be quite hot and very, very humid. Sitting under a canopy in a lawn chair sounds better than hiking all over the town.
