Friday Fragments

Basically, this is a brain dump.

* I started reading Estranged: Finding Hope When Your Family Falls Apart by Julie Plagens. It differs from the other book I read on the subject in that it comes from a Christian perspective and in that it seeks resolution rather than acceptance of the situation. I have a long way to go in it, but I already suspect the truth of coping with adult children who choose to estrange themselves from family lies somewhere in the middle between trying to resolve problems and just accepting that it is what it is. For me, I'm thinking "try" but know that there is only so much you can do if the estranged person chooses not to play along.

* Waiting for our daughter and the grands to arrive. We are supposed to be getting started on making candy and those oft mentioned Oreo balls today. I know I said we didn't have to start at the crack of dawn...but it's nearly lunch time.

* A heavy frost covered everything this morning when I took the dog out, but the sun is sort of shining and it's warming up nicely. We should see a high in the upper 50s today. Tomorrow is going to be above 60! Then we get back to normal on Sunday with a high of 40, rain, and falling temps.

* Looking forward to celebrating our little guy's birthday this Sunday. He is turning 4...not so little any more.

* Praying the justices of the Supreme Court listen to both sides of the argument today and vote their consciences and do not play politics. Just praying for fairness to rule the day and for the nation to be able to accept their decision, whatever it is, and move on from this point.

* Liking that not all of the mushy Christmas movies are about young couples. Nice to see some more mature story lines, included.

* Not liking that a lot of my favorite Christmas movies don't seem to be on Netflix or Hulu. Time to break out the DVDs, I guess.

* Pennsylvania is not exactly locked down, but as of yesterday there is no dining in restaurants again. You can still get take-out or delivery. Gyms, casinos, museums, and a bunch of other stuff are closed. Indoor gatherings are capped at 10 people. Outdoor gatherings at 50. Businesses that remain open are able to do so at 50% capacity. Good news...you can still get your hair cut this time around.

Well, the crew has finally arrived so I am off to make candy!
