Friday Fragments

Basically, this is a brain dump.

* I started reading Estranged: Finding Hope When Your Family Falls Apart by Julie Plagens. It differs from the other book I read on the subject in that it comes from a Christian perspective and in that it seeks resolution rather than acceptance of the situation. I have a long way to go in it, but I already suspect the truth of coping with adult children who choose to estrange themselves from family lies somewhere in the middle between trying to resolve problems and just accepting that it is what it is. For me, I'm thinking "try" but know that there is only so much you can do if the estranged person chooses not to play along.

* Waiting for our daughter and the grands to arrive. We are supposed to be getting started on making candy and those oft mentioned Oreo balls today. I know I said we didn't have to start at the crack of dawn...but it's nearly lunch time.

* A heavy frost covered everything this morning when I took the dog out, but the sun is sort of shining and it's warming up nicely. We should see a high in the upper 50s today. Tomorrow is going to be above 60! Then we get back to normal on Sunday with a high of 40, rain, and falling temps.

* Looking forward to celebrating our little guy's birthday this Sunday. He is turning 4...not so little any more.

* Praying the justices of the Supreme Court listen to both sides of the argument today and vote their consciences and do not play politics. Just praying for fairness to rule the day and for the nation to be able to accept their decision, whatever it is, and move on from this point.

* Liking that not all of the mushy Christmas movies are about young couples. Nice to see some more mature story lines, included.

* Not liking that a lot of my favorite Christmas movies don't seem to be on Netflix or Hulu. Time to break out the DVDs, I guess.

* Pennsylvania is not exactly locked down, but as of yesterday there is no dining in restaurants again. You can still get take-out or delivery. Gyms, casinos, museums, and a bunch of other stuff are closed. Indoor gatherings are capped at 10 people. Outdoor gatherings at 50. Businesses that remain open are able to do so at 50% capacity. Good news...you can still get your hair cut this time around.

Well, the crew has finally arrived so I am off to make candy!

  2. Happy 4th birthday to your little big boy!! Such a cutie. So glad you are making candy together. What fun memories these will be for your kiddos. Praying for your son and his family and the situation between you. God IS able, and I say commit them to the Lord, pray, and let God handle it. He knows how to bring it to pass...but be open and ready for the opportunity when it knocks. I am sorry PA is going into a kind of lock down, but it seems everything is going crazy again with this bug. Thankfully we are still not locked down in Florida. Praying we won't have to be. Praying for the cure to take effect soon. Enjoy your candy making! Take pictures!!

  3. How many times can the Supreme Court say theres no basis - I agree - I wish people would accept decisions & move on. This is just causing more division & causing things that will only make healing harder.

LOL - glad they finally showed up. I'm used to my husband's time - lunch time, the day is just about done - haha - that's what happens when you start your day at 4:30am. Hope it all worked out & you have some yummies &had fun doing it!

    Have a great weekend!

  4. How can Colton be 4 y/o already?! What a cutie!
I've never tried my hand at making candy. Mostly, I'm smiling at the thought of y'all making memories. Now, toss me one of those Oreo balls. Please?

  7. Hi Stacy. Candy making sounds fun. Your grandson is so handsome. I plan to start that same book soon. I think there is just a lot of peace in accepting the situation and letting God take over, but that is hard to do. I know that as moms, we just want our families all together and happy. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon.

  8. Yep... echoing Linda above. The Supreme Court delivered bad news. Our country, as we know it, will be gone in less than two years. I am going to make candy next week and start some baking. Happy birthday to your handsome little man!!

  9. I have never made Christmas candy. I usually bake with the grands at Christmas, but being sick changed things this year. My son brought over Vietnamese chicken soup and sandwiches. I am actually out of my room and hubby are about to see It's a Wonderful Life. We saw A Christmas Carol earlier. Going to see White Christmas tomorrow.
