Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.
1) This is the theme from Mike and Molly, a TV show that ran from 2010 to 2016. Were you a fan? I was. My husband wasn't, though, so I didn't see it all the time and toward the end, not at all.
2) Molly was played by Melissa McCarthy. Today she's one of Hollywood's best-paid actresses, but when she began her career, she was barely scraping by. She recently recalled the time when, as a struggling actress, she was rejected at the ATM because it only gave out $20s and she didn't have even that much in her checking account. How often do you visit the ATM? Several times a week? Several times a month? Never? These days it's only a few times a month. I honestly don't use cash all that often.
3) When she was broke, Melissa couldn't afford blueberries and avocados. Now she savors them. When you're a few bucks ahead, what do you splurge on? More books!
4) Mike was played by Billy Gardell. He was working at a comedy club, cleaning the bathrooms and answering the phone. He used to crack jokes with other employees and finally one of his coworkers dared him to go onstage on "open mic night." A comedy career was born. Tell us about someone who pushed you to make the right move. I can't think of anyone who pushed me to make the "right" move. I've been pushed into a few wrong moves.
5) On the show, Mike's best friend was his fellow officer, Carl McMillan. Carl was not especially motivated and still lived with his grandmother, well into his 30s. How old were you when you moved out of the house for good? I was 20 and newly married.
6) Mike's and Molly's mothers are different as night and day and frequently did not get along. Have you ever had in-law trouble? My mother-in-law was a wonderful woman that I was very close to and who counted me as her 6th daughter. My father-in-law...we won't go there.
7) This week's song was written by Keb Mo. He switches among several different guitars when he works -- electric, acoustic and resonator. Can you play guitar? Nope. I am not the least bit musical.
8) In 2010, when this show premiered, Apple introduced the iPad. Do you use a tablet? No. Just my laptop and phone.
9) This week's random question gives you an opportunity to brag: What's something you do better than most people? I don't know. I'm pretty good at forgiving people and I don't see a lot of that in the world.
Thanks to Crazy Sam for the song and the questions.
Join in the Saturday 9 fun here.
Forgiving people is a wonderful gift!
ReplyDeleteI know you love books. I really don't have room for them anymore. I have purchased 2 Bibles, a Bible Commentary and one book this year. I understand the don't go there with the FIL. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had your talent to forgive people. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteANYWAYS have a great weekend, friend.
Hi Stacy! Yes, I also splurge on books- probably too much! Both hubby and I have a lot of them. I got married when I was 19, three months before I turned 20. People seemed to get married younger back then. I also tend to be forgiving - like let's get over this and move on - unfortunately, I am dealing with some people in my family who have a hard time with that. So sad. I enjoyed your answers to this post. Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard when it's family who are unforgiving. Praying things get better.
DeleteI used to splurge on books, but now I am trying to purge them ... too many books....
ReplyDeleteBooks ... that’s not a bad splurge at all
ReplyDeleteBooks! I said that, too!
ReplyDeleteI learned a long time ago I had to forgive people for my life to not be miserable. That does not mean I surround myself with people that will hurt me, but I forgive them and move on.
ReplyDeleteBOOKS! great answer! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

Absolutely, we don't forgive them for them (unless they ask us to), we forgive them for our own peace of mind. And forgiving doesn't mean allowing yourself to be a doormat.
DeleteI forgive people also, life is too short to hold grudges
ReplyDeleteBooks are good. Forgiveness is excellent.
ReplyDeleteI asked Joe if there was something I was 'great' at doing and he said that I am generous and forgiving. So we must have that in common, Stacy! I do forgive freely and I try to be generous and giving. But many people are and can give more than I can. Good stuff here!! xo
ReplyDeleteProps! And you're right, true forgiveness is pretty rare these days. I can't think of the last time I used cash for anything ... too busy racking up points! Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteIn laws are crazy. I have 3 marriages ending in divorce. My first in-laws were great. I was close to my father-in-law and I was in his room when he passed at 66 from cancer. My second marriage I hated my mother-in-law. But before we were married her dad died of lung cancer also. It was so similar it was eerie. In my current divorce, her month had been dead a while. Her father was friendly, but he too died before we wed...
ReplyDeleteInteresting answers. I am not familiar with the TV show. I don't buy books anymore, unless they were written by one of my friends who becomes an author! I check them out at the library. I have too many books now and no more room to put them. but I do love them. Being "forgiving" is a wonderful quality and gift that not many people have anymore. That is well worth practicing. We need more of it in this world. Thank you for your good answers. Oh, I moved out of the house also when I was newly married, but I was still 18, but going on 19 in about a month. Still very young, now that I look back on it. But we were more mature back then than 18 yr. old kids are today.
ReplyDeleteOh, you were young! I never thought about it, but I suppose we were more mature than today's young people, but just looking at back I was so inexperienced. I had no idea at all what was coming. LOL
