The Tuesday 4 is all about regional words and customs today!
1. In New Jersey you put your groceries in a paper bag or plastic bag. In Athens, Ohio where I went to university, you put them in a paper sack.
Is it bag , sack or something else where you live? You hear both, but mainly we use bags.2. NJ says Stockings. Athens, Ohio used to call them "hose" and in Britain they are tights. What about where you live? Pantyhose or stockings.
3.Soda, Pop, Coke? Pop, but again with society being so mobile we hear both. When I was growing up if you asked for a soda you were going to get something with ice cream in it.
4. Shopping cart or trolley or? What do you call it? It's a cart and occasionally a "buggy."
I know that my family always called it "pop", and I thought that was pretty typical of folks from PA., where my family came from. In the south everything is a "coke", regardless of what it really is. And I remember those ice cream sodas! I miss them. But I also love Root Beer Floats. Yes, I wear pantyhose or stockings. Some call them nylons. And I usually get a "buggy" at the store. I hope you are having a great day.
ReplyDeleteSlapping my forehead to Pamela's comment; nylons. My mom also calls them that. I enjoyed your answers, Stacy. Have a great day, friend.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about nylons...used to hear that all the time.
DeleteHi Stacy: I enjoyed your answers today.
ReplyDeleteHave a good Tuesday my friend.
This was a fun one. Looks like we’re pretty similar.
ReplyDeleteHi Stacey, hope you're having a good day!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot about buggy. I've heard that in my mom's hometown of Frackville Pa. They called it a buggy.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun seeing what things are called in different parts of the country. PA and OH are pretty much the same, I think. Happy Tuesday, Stacy!
ReplyDeleteI don't think anybody wears hose, stockings or panty hose anymore around here. I remember my mom calling them "hose."
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you mentioned leotards at my blog! I left you a comment. I had forgotten...that is what my mom actually called them and I just completely forgot. Thank-you for that! I love words from the past. Loved your answers! Have a great week.
