Saturday 9: Black

Saturday 9: Black (2016)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song was chosen because yesterday was Black Friday, the traditional day of sales. Have you begun your Christmas shopping?  A little bit...some for the grandkids, one for our daughter and her husband. That's it so far. I'm not doing very well this year.

2) Was there an adult beverage served with your Thanksgiving feast?  Yes, we had wine.

3) Did any pets enjoy scraps from your Thanksgiving table?  Again, yes. Our daughter's dog and cats know to sit under our granddaughter's highchair...lots of goodies go flying off the tray.

4) Are there any Thanksgiving leftovers in your refrigerator right now?  There is some turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.

5) Football is a popular Thanksgiving weekend pastime. Will you be watching any games over the next few days? If yes, which team(s) are you rooting for?  I like football, but my husband grew up in a family that didn't watch so he doesn't either. It puts him to sleep or sends him from the room so I don't watch very often.

6) This week's song is by Dierks Bentley. He wrote it for his wife, Cassidy Black, who appears in the video. They met in eighth grade, dated on and off, and then eloped when they were in their late 20s. Has anyone ever surprised you by going off and suddenly getting married?  My mom and my stepdad. They went on a trip to Florida after they'd been seeing each other for 10 years. They called from West Virginia and said they'd gotten married. Could have knocked me over with a feather.

7) 2016 was a good year for Bentley. This song was one of three hits he had that year, he co-hosted the CMAs and was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year. As 2020 winds to an end, do you feel it's been a successful year?  In some personal ways, yes, but no, not on the whole. The human race seems to have had a notably unsuccessful year in my opinion.

8) In 2016, David Bowie died. Do you have a favorite Bowie song?  I liked several, but Rebel, Rebel is probably my favorite.

9) Also in 2016, CBS telecast reran How the Grinch Stole Christmas for the 50th time. What's your favorite Dr. Seuss story?  It's a tie between On Beyond Zebra and And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

I'm linked up with Crazy Sam for the Saturday 9.

  1. #6 -- I've never actually known anyone who eloped! I'm intrigued that it was your mom/stepdad. The cliche is that it's young people who just run off and do it.

    1. We never expected it. They'd been dating/semi-living together for 10 years, bouncing back and forth between homes. There didn't seem to be a need to get married. I still don't know what spurred them to do it. And they still spend part of their time at his house and part at hers.

  2. Hi Stacy. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving. We have lots of leftovers in our fridge too. I think tomorrow I need to make something besides turkey for dinner. Yes, we heard from our older son and younger daughter on Thanksgiving after we texted them. Still nothing from our oldest daughter. I am not even sure how to get in touch with her. Breaks my heart, but God is my strength. Hope you have a good weekend.

    1. It makes me so glad you heard from at least 2 of your kids. I fear my son is going to become like your oldest daughter. He owns his home so I'll know where he lives, but I can easily imagine him changing his cell number. He already doesn't post on Facebook. Something other than turkey...yes, I think that's in order today. I had some of the leftovers for brunch this morning, but definitely don't want to eat them again tonight.

  3. My nephew and his wife didn't exactly elope, but we had no sooner found out that he had a "special girlfriend" and then they went to the courthouse and invited only their parents and immediate family (they both had been married before) and got married on Christmas Eve. He had never had children before, and she had 3 daughters, so it was an instant family for my nephew, and he has never been so happy in his life. So it was a great decision...just a surprise to the rest of us! I am happy that 2020 is about to end, but I pray that 2021 will be a good year. With the current state of "affairs" in D.C., there are a lot of questions about that...so we will just keep praying for our nation to wake up and get smart before it is too late to stop the train wreck that is going to happen if they don't. I know we can't change what is done, but we can keep it from getting worse. Praying hard about that. Have a blessed weekend.

    1. How wonderful that your nephew found a second chance at love and is so happy! I like a fairytale ending. ;) Yes, I won't be sorry to see 2020 end, either. I pray 2021 will be a good year, too, but after this year the bar is sure set low! lol I hope our nation will wake up, but I believe God has removed his favor. The only hope is that we turn back to him as a nation before we end up facing his judgement, which I believe will mean the end of the U.S. as we have known it.

I/we have finished shopping already. Not hard to do with the internet and working at the #1 retailer, just saying, lol. Have a great day friend!

    1. I couldn't work for Wally World. I'd end up just giving them back all of my paycheck.

  5. Clever fur babies! I'd love to have seen them lurking under Leah's highchair. Hearing of everyone's goodies, I think I'm going to take Tom up on his offer to make a little turkey for the two of us. And buy myself a pumpkin pie, LOL.

    1. All the critters (including mine and my mom's) know where the goodies fall. And Leah thinks it's great fun so we have to watch that she eats more than she tosses.

  6. I haven't started any Christmas shopping (don't like Black Fridays) and I have plenty of Thanksgiving leftovers in the frig.
    I enjoyed your answers today.
Have a good Saturday my friend.

    1. My stepdad is the only one who watches a lot of football on Thanksgiving and he gives in when he's with us and we end up watching the national dog show.

  8. It was tough to choose a Bowie song--Let's Dance was the soundtrack to my high school years!

    1. It's sad, but we sure were a disappointing species this year. Sigh. Let's hope next year is a major improvement!

  10. Our family are big football fans, me, not so much. I don't do a lot of shopping anymore so black friday isn't a big deal to me. I am looking forward to decorating our tree, I might not shop but I still love Christmas.

  11. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving. Some good questions here but tomorrow's Sunday Stealing is a little weird. I'm sure the pets enjoyed their goodies from the high chair! Happy weekend!!

    1. I haven't been doing the Sunday Stealing, but now I'm going to have to go look at the questions just out of curiosity. lol I'm still not planning to do it...going to try a church on for size tomorrow. Really looking forward to that!

  12. Wow, that elopement would have been a surprise. My nephew slipped off to Gatlinburg and got married. We sort of thought that was what they were doing and so weren't too awfully surprised when they returned wed. The surprise was the baby that arrived about six months later.

    1. Oh my! Guess they could claim "premature." Thankfully, I didn't get a (MUCH) younger sibling out of it when Mom eloped. Now that would have been one for the record books! lol

  13. Hubs and I decided to bail on presents this year for each other. Instead, we're going to keep my Christmas fund going and take a mini-cay to our favorite luxury hotel in Santa Fe in April. I literally just could not come up with anything I needed or wanted. Other than a grout brush, haha.
