Outside my window...
Another day that is more clouds than sunshine. Temperature is expected to reach the high 50's this afternoon. Spring is beginning to show her face in emerald green grass and sunshine yellow dandelions and forsythia. Oh, and mud. April showers bring....mud. Lots and lots of mud.
Reading...
Finishing up The Cold Dish: A Longmire Mystery. Just in time as book 2 in the series is due from Amazon tomorrow. Also reading and studying Romans 9 for tomorrow night's Bible study.
Celebrating...
My stepdad's birthday is today. He is 79. He likes the Longmire show, too, and likes to read. I ordered him a boxed set of the first 4 books in the series. Unfortunately, it won't arrive until tomorrow.
Tomorrow is Mom and my stepdad's anniversary. Our daughter kind of beat me to the punch by giving them 2 steaks and dessert for their dinner (she had the wrong day) since they don't interact with us at all if they can help it. I guess I will give them their card and a promise of a dinner out when this is over.
Accomplishing...
Small things. I made up my mind to get just one organizing or cleaning job done each day. If I do more great, but I have to do at least one. I'm chipping away at the to-do list in manageable bites.
Thinking about...
It's time to start getting the garden beds ready. I don't know why everyone says they won't have a garden due to the virus. All of our garden centers are still open so plants and seeds will be available.
Read a promising sounding article this weekend. It recommended covering the beds with newspaper, 4 layers thick, wetting the papers down and then covering them with compost. It's supposed to keep the weeds from taking hold and it's good for the soil. Lucky for me, Mom has all of her old newspapers stacked up for recycling.
Grateful...
We broke out of the house on Friday and took a long ride through the countryside. We went on roads we'd never been on before and enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenery. We even passed a beef farm that had a whole field full of babies. So cute! I'd hoped we'd see a sheep farm since there is nothing cuter than a field of lambs running and playing, but no such luck. We picked up a couple of things at Walgreen's and a take-out order from the local Mexican place. Yum!
A thought I want to share...

I think a drive is needed here, grin. I am glad you got out and about, it does help the mind, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your step dad and Happy Anniversary to your mom and step dad. I hope you have a beautiful day, friend.
What a very good thought you shared! For such a time as this....
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to do one small thing every day, too! It's actually adding up.
ReplyDeleteI, too, began doing that 'one small thing' each day ... yeay. BUT, I must have broken my hand while patting myself on the back, cause nothing's been accomplished in days. That ride in the country is a super idea. There are so many places in Alabama we've not yet seen. Even ordering take-out sounds like a treat.
ReplyDeleteI had plans to do one thing a day. Start spring cleaning... but here I sit. Good for you guys getting out! Happy birthday and happy anniversary to your folks!
ReplyDeleteI love the goal of one thing a day - that will add up to so much at the end of everything!
ReplyDeleteThe newspaper trick does work, although we also had to put rocks on them to keep them from blowing away after they dried out. We did that for a while but eventually turned to degradable stuff that you buy in strips to keep away the weeds. I'm not healthy enough to do all that weeding. I can't remember what the degradable stuff is called. But we got it at Lowes.
