Sunday Stealing: Quirky Questions

Welcome to Sunday Stealing, where the questions are stolen, but nobody cares. Thanks goes to Bev, the thief in charge, for hunting down the questions each week and making sure credit is given where due.

Today's questions come from...

Quirky Questions from SwapBot

1.   Did you become what you wanted to be when you grew up?  No, I didn't follow any of the career paths I dreamed about.  Are you happy with your choice?  I didn't end up with a "career" of any kind, but yes, I am happy with life. I love my family and who knows how that would have turned out if I had followed the career dreams.

2.   Did man really go to the moon or was it a publicity stunt?  I believe we've been to the moon.

3.    Given the opportunity to change one major aspect of your life (i.e. career, relationship, family) with no guarantee of the outcome, would you take the chance?  No.  Why?  Because I wouldn't want to chance messing up what I have now. I might have when I was younger, but not now.

4.    Does money buy happiness?  It can certainly buy things that make you temporarily happy or smooth out a lot of life's difficulties, but long term, deep happiness? No.

5.    What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?  Go to the bathroom or take the dog out. It depends on which one of us is in the bigger hurry.

6.    What are we going to do when we run out of room to bury the dead?  Cremation is always an option and there are all kinds of companies out there doing creative things with the ashes. You can become part of a tree or be made into a diamond or a paperweight.

7.    What is your greatest fear? Other than snakes and sharks, my true greatest fear is that anyone I know will not go to heaven. Why? Because I want them to live forever in God's presence. Is it rational or unreasonable?  If you have faith it is reasonable.

8.    How do you feel about the exploitation of your private data in the digital age?  It really ticks me off and I kind of secretly hope all the data-stealing, account-hacking bandits end up in a special corner of hell reserved just for them.  Does it ever cross your mind or are you hyper-aware of the risks?  I tend to be pretty aware.

9.    You can be forgiven one debt. What is it? If you don’t have debt, then how did you do it?  One debt? Definitely our income tax debt. We found ourselves owing for several years in a row and then we got slammed with a 1099 from someone who was supposed to be one of our best friends (and our pastor at the time). That person got Tim to do a lot of work "just friend to friend" then surprised us in MARCH, long after our taxes were done, by turning in a 1099 for a very large sum...more than she actually paid. (She was building a church and running money through her pediatrics practice and needed more write off.) Due to a series of problems getting info from the IRS (imagine that) it drug on for years and our new tax debts piled on because they refused to make payment arrangements without this mess being cleared up. Last year, after FIVE years, we finally went through a tax attorney to get it sorted out. The IRS "generously" forgave some of the interest, but not all and set us up on a payment plan. And no, there is no "grace" during this Covid-19 mess. My advice to anyone, don't trust anyone, no matter how good a friend, when it comes to business. If you want to help out a friend, do it for free or get a signed contract.

10.    Hot or cold?  In general, I guess hot, though I'd rather it wasn't too hot or humid. Around 80 is perfect.

11.    What is your favorite thing in the world (aside from family, friends, pets)?  Spending time learning about God and getting to know him even better.

12.    You have to give up one of your five senses. Which one would you go without?  Taste. It might be easier to lose weight if I can't taste anything. Ha!

13.    Do you believe everyone has a doppelgänger?  Probably not everyone, but a lot of people sure do. Years ago someone started a thing on Facebook to post a picture of a celebrity people said you looked like. Here's mine.

Erin Moran, known as Joanie Cunningham
on Happy Days

I have brown eyes while she has blue eyes, but here are some older pictures of me. Maybe you can see it.

And this picture is the one I shared on Facebook. Our daughter saw it and wanted to know who was the guy in the picture with me!

The funniest thing I remember about people thinking I looked like Joanie was a guy trying to pick me up in college. His line? "You look like Joanie Cunningham! Do people tell you that? Hey! They tell me I look like Potsie so we should get together!"

14.    Likewise, does everyone have a soulmate or is it just a matter of proximity and circumstance?  I'm not crazy about the term soulmate, but yes, I do think there is someone for most everyone. Maybe some people miss out because they are looking for the wrong person? Other times I believe God has a different plan.

15.    Imagine you have a theme song that plays every time you enter a room. What would your song be?  "It's a Great Day to Be Alive" What else?

  1. Wow, you really did look like Joanie - that is so cool. Australia's tax system is pretty awful, but it appears to be nothing on the American one. At least they take income tax out at the source - you can then pay it back. All too confusing. Good post.

  2. Yes you look like Joanie! We both agree on giving up taste. I have gained weight while at home. I need to exercise, no excuses. I look forward to going back to the gym!

  3. There is definitely a similarity between you and Erin Moran. Are you sure you weren't in Happy Days?

    :o)

  4. Gosh, these questions have hurt my head, LOLOLOL. Yes you look like her. Hey, I believe in doppelgänger...true story; there is more than one person with my husbands name with 1 different SS number. Yep...

    ANYWAYS---have a great day friend.

  5. Our days begin in a remarkably similar fashion.

I am so sorry you worry about Heaven. That must be awful! This illustrates why, when people talk about "Christians," they should remember we are not a monolithic faith. For I, too, believe, and strongly, and I believe God understands and forgives more than you do. I wish somehow I could give you that, but I also understand it doesn't work that way.

    1. Thank you for being concerned. I do believe God forgives just about anything, but I also believe we have to repent and ask for that forgiveness. And we have to accept him as Savior and Lord of our lives. Sadly, many I know and love think that believing in God is enough. I wish it was, but the scriptures say otherwise. Even the demons believe in God and recognized Jesus. To get to heaven everyone has to make a decision. I don't even like to call myself a Christian because none of it was ever about a religion. It was always about a relationship. I have that. It's many of those around me that I fear for.

  7. Wow is right; you and 'Joanie' could be twins. That's awful about your so-called friend/pastor. #5 made me laugh out loud because it's so true here in my house. During my brief sojourn at the funeral home I learned there's also an option to have one's cremains made part of an underwater lagoon reef. While I want to be cremated, that gives me the creeps.
    Have a blessed day!

    1. A lagoon reef? I could like that one. The one that creeps me out is the diamond. Who wants to wear their dead loved one???

  10. I couldn't answer this week's questions--I don't really know why. But I enjoyed reading your answers. And that's great advice about doing work for free or with a contract.

  11. You and Erin Moran really are twins! I have never seen such a good match. I am sorry about your pastor taking advantage of you. That is awful! And the IRS can be heartless. Liked your theme song. Have a good week!
