Surviving the Hodgepodge

Good morning and welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge. I'm linking up with Joyce today for her weekly questions.

1. What's something you resolved to do this year? Have you done it?  I don't make resolutions these days. They always seem to end up going by the wayside, so why set myself up for failure?

2. Where do you go to find quietude?  I have my own little room, a space I created after our daughter moved out a few years ago. It's filled with bookshelves, a desk with a comfy office chair, craft supplies, and all the things I've collected that make me happy. For the most part, no one goes in there but me.

3. A friend asked this question on her Facebook page and said I could borrow it for the Hodgepodge...you're only allowed to buy 5 things at the grocery store, and all must start with the first letter of your first name. Whatcha' buying?  Shrimp, steak, spaghetti, salad, and soup.

4. The television show Survivor, the Gloria Gaynor song 'I Will Survive', survival mode, survival of the fittest...pick one and discuss.  Hmm...tough one, Joyce. I guess I'll tackle the song. I've always liked I Will Survive and will usually sing along when it comes on the radio (at least when I'm alone). When I was young I identified with it because I trusted in my own strength and ability to get through difficulties. Now I know I will survive the hard stuff because I'm not alone and it doesn't all depend on me. I will survive because God is with me.

5. Share a favorite quote or saying about strength.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Life is taking its first tentative steps toward returning to normal. Tim received a call from his employer yesterday and today he is off to the office for "training." Tomorrow the men are supposed to begin working at one of the project sites. We were unsure how this was coming about since all but life-sustaining businesses remain closed here in Pennsylvania and the stay at home order continues until at least May 8, but I saw on the news this morning that the State House passed a bill that allows construction to resume if it follows CDC recommendations. The kink in that is that the bill goes to the State Senate today and must pass there. Tim's employer is either very optimistic or knows something we don't. Tim was very excited and happy to be going back to work. He doesn't like the unstructured days of being at home....at least not for more than the length of a vacation.

  1. My husband is retired and it took me three years to get used to that. He became disabled in 2017 and going out gave me a break. So I feel like I am living on the edge. I will be so glad when they remove our shelter in place.

    1. Oh my! I am sure you are going crazy by now. Are you not allowed to at least get out for a walk or something? On the retirement thing, I've seen a few family members and friends struggle mightily with having their husbands home full time. It is a MAJOR adjustment! I'm praying you can get out soon!

  2. I can relate to Maribeth...my husband had a series of strokes 13 years ago, the key is getting out, take a walk etc. I also have my own room, but you know, they just think they can enter when they feel like it. ((rolling eyes))

ANYWAYS---forgot all about the HP, again. Maybe later today then. grin.

    1. Oh my, he was young!!!
As for the room, they wander in now and then...and it goes over like a lead balloon. Don't go poking around in my stuff!

  3. Here in Wisconsin construction was deemed an essential business, so our son has continued to go to work. Whether or not they're wearing masks, I don't know. And not sure how social distancing is maintained in that situation either. It's nice we have our places of quietude.

    1. I'm not sure how our governor decided which businesses were essential since while everything else closed down, landscaping businesses remained open.

  4. Glad to hear that your hubby is headed out to work. Mine is off til June 1st. I don't mind because he does all the cooking and he spends most of his days in the yard. Stay strong and healthy!

    1. As it turns out there is only one project open for now. It is allowed because they are building a plant that makes titanium for joint replacements. Other than that, we have to wait to see what happens on May 8, the date our governor has given to start opening a few things.

  5. I think its really tough for men especially all this staying home & not working. Hope they have some good guidelines & they stick with it for Tim's sake.
We all need a space with comfy chairs, surrounded by books. The best peaceful space

    1. They have a LOT of guidelines. That's all today's meeting/training was about.

  6. There is still construction happening in our state. It feels like one of the safer jobs to return to as there is generally room to be apart. A house under construction on our street has a sign up from the builder for the workers about not sharing tools, washing hands, not sitting together for lunch etc. Seems to be going well so far. Hope your hubs is able to get back to work too. Stay well!

    1. What was deemed essential and therefore allowed was very weird here. No construction, but landscapers could continue?

  7. Yeay for Tim! I'm a bit envious of your 'nest' … who needs a stinkin' She Shed? Your last two sentences of #4 … wow. I love that, and never tire of being reminded. Reassured. Have a sweet day!

    1. If we lived where it was warmer for more than 3 or 4 months of the year I'd love a she shed removed from the house, but there's no appeal to having to pull on longjohns, boots, etc. to get to your quiet space.

  8. So happy that your dh seems to be going back to work, your quiet place sounds so peaceful!
A beautiful verse you have shared.

    1. Thank you, Sue. Today's training was all about CDC safety measures so he is definitely going back to work.

  9. Florida is going to begin a slow opening up starting May 1st. My chiropractor called today to get an appointment scheduled for me on April 27 so evidently chiropractors are going back to work. My knee surgery hasn't been canceled yet... May 12. It feels good and gives me some hope for a much nicer summer!

    1. PA is scheduled to "maybe" consider a slow opening on May. I am praying your surgery doesn't get cancelled.
