Monday Morning Musings

The view from the kitchen table...

Wet, wet, wet! Thunderstorms rolled in last night and the rain continues this morning. It's cool with a high of 51 predicted. Spring...where art thou? Well, might as well pull up a chair and I'll pour us a cup of my favorite cinnamon tea with some french vanilla Truvia to sweeten it. M-mmm.

Reflecting on the weekend...

I can tell you today feels almost like a heat wave. Friday was cold, windy, and wet and brought snow flurries late in the afternoon. The ground wasn't cold enough for it to stick, thank goodness, but it rained so much I was thinking about digging out my bible to get the directions on how to build an ark.

We did get good news on Friday. Governor Wolf announced that our county will be among the next group to move to the yellow phase of reopening. Everyone is so excited, but I'm sure it will be a mixed bag with some remaining cautious and others rushing right back to normal. It seems like more and more do that every day as it is. Oh, and our favorite Chinese restaurant reopened for take out orders. I was all over that and we had a nice dinner of several of our favorites.

Saturday morning found us (along with half the town, I think) at Walmart. We needed to fill one of Tim's prescriptions and get just one or two things. After that we decided to take a ride. We didn't have a plan, but ended up heading over toward Ligonier and driving up into Lynn Run State Park and continuing on up the mountain until the park turned into the Laurel Summit State Park. That was a bit of an adventure. It was snowing up on top the mountain. A lot!

Our next stop was a local meat packing business that had a pop-up barbecue. We picked up BBQ beef short ribs, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and chicken. We brought it all back home and had lunch with Megan, Cody, and the kids.

Sunday was beautiful...sunny and it ended up being in the 60's. I took a gift up to Mom in the morning and talked with her a little bit, but she's still leery of too much contact. Mostly, we hung out at home. Megan and her family stopped by and I took a family picture of them. Apparently, the first of the four of them together.

We even managed to get a picture of Tim who tries to avoid that at all cost.

Our son called in the afternoon and I talked with him for a good while. It will be nice when this stay-at-home order lifts on Friday and we can see his family again. We haven't seen them since February.

Celebrating...

Leah had a good visit at the pediatrician's on Friday. She is 9 1/2 months old, 28 1/2 inches long, and weighs 20 lbs. She's pulling herself up and standing and I guess she just started standing without holding on to anything a little bit this weekend. She's growing so fast!

Thinking about...

How I need to get myself motivated and back on track now that the stay-at-home order is going to be lifting. I have turned into such a couch potato through this whole thing. I don't know...it's gonna be tough getting dressed in the morning, doing my hair, making the bed, and cutting back to 3 meals a day.

A little something to laugh about...

  3. HA! on the graphics, especially the last one. I am so OVER this whole thing...and I am done wearing masks. I am done not giving hugs or receiving them, DONE, I TELL YOU! DONE!!! ((GRIN))

I am so sad about your son --I can commiserate--my folks have nothing to do with me or their oldest grandson (my son). They actually raise my brothers kids because you know, my brother and his wife are 'professionals' and they have full time jobs, talk about a slap in the face, anyways...

Wishing you a happy belated Mother's Day, my friend. We have the same weather, sigh.

  4. You two had a nice get-away! The food sounds delicious! Love the family photos and it is good to finally see a picture of Tim! That snow just looks wicked to me! LOL I am so happy that things are relaxing a bit for you up there. We actually ate in a restaurant for lunch today! Felt kind of weird, actually. Praise God! Have a good week and get out of those PJs!! (wink)

  5. Hard to believe Leah's already 9 months old! Those cheeks? (I can't even!) Your daughter looks so much like you, Stacy. And I must say, Tim's a darn handsome dude … not sure why he doesn't like his picture taken. In spite of social distancing (I hate that term) I'm glad to hear your Mother's Day was sweet.

    And I agree.
How am I going to do life when this is over?
