Saturday 9: Work Hard, Play Harder

Woohoo! I love Gretchen Wilson. Thanks for the song and the questions, Sam. Play along with the Saturday 9 here.

Saturday 9: Work Hard, Play Harder (2009)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) We're celebrating the last holiday of summer by going country. Who is your favorite country music artist?  The Big Dog, Toby Keith!

2) Gretchen Wilson sings that on Tuesdays, she gets up before dawn. This morning, did you awaken on your own, or did you need an alarm clock?  I woke up on my own. I'm not working so no alarms for me. I also haven't been sleeping that well lately so I'm up whether I want to be or not.

3) She tells us that she doesn't waste her time on manicures or spay tans. How about you? Have you recently spent any money at the salon?  Not since the end of June when I got my hair colored. I am way overdue to get it done again.

4) She sings that she's the first to clock in at work. Have you ever worked a job that required you to punch a time clock?
All of them, except when I drove a school bus, required punching in and out.

5) Gretchen Wilson says she is a big fan of McDonald's and tries to eat there once a day when she's on tour. In terms of sales, America's 3 most popular fast-food lunch destinations are McDonald's, Starbucks and Subway. If you could choose a gift card to one of those three, which would you select?
It has to be one of those? Eh...Subway, I guess. Not really a fan of any of them.

6) Gretchen has endorsed Redneck Riviera Whiskey. What's your favorite adult beverage?
  Pretty much anything with rum.

Since this Monday is Labor Day, the holiday established to celebrate the American worker …

7) Approx. 10% of Americans are self employed. Have you ever been your own boss?  No.

8) According to Monster.com, 50% of workers have left a job to get away from a boss. Are you one of the 50%?  Yes, that's the biggest reason why I left the last one.

9) Farmers feel the impact of extreme weather events. Have you ever had a job that required you to be outdoors most of the time?  The summer I worked for the Youth Conservation Corps was all outside and the school bus was sort of outside.

  1. #2 -- That is so me, too! I wonder what's going on. Me in the midwest, you in the midatlantic, neither of us able to get a good night's sleep.

    1. I remember seeing something in the news about sleeplessness being another thing that seems to be affecting people during the lockdown. Stress?

  2. I wasn't a fan of any of the food eatery choices, either. I will eat Subway if I must. I wonder if you should consider starting your own business. It is hard to do, but you might be happier about it.

    1. Yes, that's me with Toby. I don't really look like that any longer. That was taken 10 years ago!

  6. Speaking of bus drivers....we are down 5 drivers at the district I am at because of covid. They consolidated routes because of virtual, so hopefully that fixed everything. Crazy though. I wonder if it is like that everywhere? Loved your answers! Have a great day!

    1. I would guess it is in some places. I don't think it is for us, though, because we're a rural area and the routes are pretty long. The kids would be on the buses forever if they eliminated some of them.

  7. So many great c/w singers ... and Toby's right up there. Were I playing, I think mine would be a tie between Merle Haggard and Trace Adkins. Pass the rum, please?

    1. I like Trace, too. I saw him and Toby together one year on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Talk about an amazing concert!

  8. I don't sleep very well at all anymore. But at least I can take naps. Especially now in quarantine. Hope you get quality sleep. To be honest, I think of Jesus as a big brother in control of the storms.
It seems a lot of us have had a bad boss or two.
Rum in anything is it? I like rum for cooking at Christmas time. Steeping the cakes, little sips...... :)

Yes, it does seem like bad bosses are plentiful.

  9. None of those food places are on my list. I prefer Jersey Mike's for subs, like McDonald's coffee better than Starbucks... I have had rum and coke and a rum punch when we were in New Orleans but I don't usually think about rum if I am ordering a drink. I hit a few weeks of not sleeping well but that is behind me now, thank goodness!!

  10. I’ve been having sleep issues lately, too. Too much caffeine and too much trouble in the world

    1. You're probably right. They say sleeplessness is something a lot of people are struggling with during all this "fun" we're having.

  11. I take 1/2 benadryl and 2 ibuprofen at night. I used to take a whole benadryl, but wanted to cut back because they say it causes alzheimers. I don't need any help in getting that. LOL. I still don't sleep real well, but the bathroom has something to do with that too. We do take a nap every day after lunch for about 30-45 minutes, and that helps me get through the day. Also, no caffeine for me after 3 pm. I drink water in the evenings. However, sleeplessness could be breathing issues too. I know they wanted to test me for sleep apnea, but I wouldn't wear one of those machines even if I needed it, so why bother? Anyway, maybe getting back to some kind of normal will help people start sleeping better again. We sit too much and don't get enough exercise. When it cools down I hope we can get outside more. Please take care and have a wonderful week.
