Good morning and happy Friday! Yesterday was a bit crazy around here...I had Colton and Leah here for much of it and I didn't get to join in for Thankful Thursday. You all know that's my favorite blogging day of the week and I don't like to skip it. So, a little late, but here's my list for this week.
** God's peace in the midst of the mess that is the ongoing contest of who won the election.
** Summer-like weather in November.
** A wonderful Bible study class spent sitting out on our teacher's deck. It overlooks a lake and is far out in the country. We discussed the role of the Holy Spirit while looking up at the stars.
** I'm being faithful to praying for our daughter-in-law every day. If you've been around a while, you know she is one of the people in the world I'm least inclined to want to pray for. But I saw the challenge on Facebook at the beginning of the month when everyone was beginning their 30 Days of Thanksgiving posts and God brought her to mind.
The first prayers came with difficulty. Then as God always does through prayer, he began to work on the one saying the prayers. They are coming easier now and they are heartfelt and fervent. I pray our daughter-in-law comes to know the Lord and is healed from all the hurts and pains of her past. I thank God for changing my heart, for removing my anger, so I can do that and mean it.
** Our daughter called last Friday night and asked, out of the blue, if I knew of any churches having Christmas Eve services and if we'd want to go with her. Whoa! She is not an atheist like our son. She says she believes. However, she has rejected church for years...ever since the mess we went through at a former church. She was in middle school at the time. Kids notice the bad stuff and she had a front row seat.
Anyway, it's kind of a weird time for churches. I told her I would start looking around. I am going to one this Sunday to see if the preaching is true to the Word and what the fellowship is like. Unfortunately, no churches here are meeting for more than Sunday morning services...and that may not last much longer as Covid cases continue to rise in our area. We are all halfway expecting another shutdown. I'm going to go this Sunday, anyway, and I hope she will go with me.
** All of you, of course!
And now, just for fun, I'm sharing a photo of this little Thanksgiving decoration I bought several years ago at a craft store. I thought it was cute and enjoyed it for a few years before I noticed something about it. Something that once noticed can't be unnoticed. See if you can figure it out. Click on the photo to enlarge it.
Have a happy Friday and a safe and blessed weekend!

I can't say for sure because I wasn't there, but I feel like I can make a good guess that they did not have hamburgers at the first Thanksgiving. The Pilgrim lady is carrying a turkey, but look at the plates. They are piled with hamburgers!
Hi Stacy, I hope you and your daughter can find a church. Our church is open with limited numbers and mask have to be worn. There is an overflow outside and of course online. I did Thankful Thursday and included pictures from my grandson's birthday. There is one picture of me that should make you laugh. I bet your Bible study was special. I am spending less time online. I am still doing my Bible in a year program along with 2 gratitude studies. I always do the Advent study through Illustrated Faith. Do you do something for Advent? Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou have probably told me, but does Illustrated Faith have a web site?
DeleteI didn't notice the hamburgers, just the turkey on the ground looking up.
ReplyDeleteI think I had it for 3 or 4 years before I noticed the hamburgers!
DeleteI just saw the hamburgers. That is so funny!! I wonder who designed that one? Hilarious! But it is a very cute little Thanksgiving vignette. Praying for your DIL and family. Praying also that you can find a good church, and that your family will go with you soon. God is able. Even with Covid. God is able.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be a sticker on the bottom that said it was made in China or some such place. I always figured they just assumed Americans eat hamburgers. lol Yes, indeed He is able! Thank you for your prayers.
DeleteLOL... The hamburgers is funny.
ReplyDeleteI did that one time to someone that just really bothered me - prayed for them & it was amazing how God softened my heart for her too. Funny how that works.
I learned the lesson a long time ago that you can't hate someone while you're praying for them. Sometimes it just takes a while to be willing to be changed. :/
DeleteI am so very thankful for you my friend. Hamburgers, rolling with that one, lololol.
ReplyDeletePretty sure it was made in China so I guess it figures. lol
DeleteI love that Thanksgiving decoration. I also love the idea to pray specifically for my son-in-law and other difficult family members. I have prayed for healing and reconciliation for a long time, but I know I carry some hard feelings in my heart, so I will start praying for those I have those feelings about. Thank you my friend! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteKnowing how similar your situation is to mine, I understand completely how hard it is to want to pray for certain people, but I learned a long time ago that you can't hate someone while you're praying for them. The trick is getting past the hate enough to be obedient to pray. I know God changes us and I am hopeful he will work miracles in the ones we are praying for, too!
DeleteGood luck with your search for a new church. Keep us posted! I did not notice the hamburgers! Too funny! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! I know, the burgers are the craziest thing. LOL
Deletehaha, hamburgers are cute! Yes, I bet they had wild turkey, fish and maybe wild pig too. It must have been a wonderful thankful time!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was quite a celebration of thanksgiving! I credit the burgers to the decoration being made in China or some such place. Thanksgiving is my favorite and makes me quite proud of my heritage (though that is terribly politically incorrect these days)...I am descended from both John & Priscilla Alden and Miles Standish.
