Saturday 9: Feels Like the First Time (1977)

Saturday 9:  Feels Like the First Time (1977)

Woohoo, Sam! I love me some Foreigner. They are a big part of the soundtrack of my junior high years.

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Welcome to the first Saturday 9 of 2021!

1) Look up from your screen. What's the first thing you see?  The TV screen. We are watching Quantico. It sure doesn't leave you with any good feelings about the FBI or the CIA...just in case you had any to begin with.

2) Lo
oking back on 2020, what surprised you?  I wish I could say it was how hatefully people acted toward one another, but I can't say I'm surprised by the depths that we sink to anymore. So, I guess that it would be that life could still be so good in spite of all that has been going on.

3) Have you made any resolutions for 2021?  Not really. I don't make solid resolutions...more like good intentions and they are the usual. Exercise, drink water, eat healthier, use my planner, be more organized, etc. And if I don't stick with it, I forgive myself.

4) In Italy, it's said that if you wear red underwear on New Year's Eve, you'll have good luck all year around. Do you have a lucky charm?  No. I don't believe in such things.

5) In Spain, some New Year's Eve revelers believe that, at the stroke of midnight, you should eat exactly 12 grapes, one at a time and one right after the other, to bring you luck for the next twelve months. Did you have anything special on your New Year's Eve menu?  Growing up my dad always ate sardines. I can't stand those, so no. Tim and I ordered Red Lobster and had Door Dash deliver it.

6) In this week's featured song, Foreigner lead singer Lou Gramm lets us know that he'd sail across a stormy sea to reach his true love. How is the weather where you are today? Are you kicking off 2021 under calm skies, or is it stormy?  It has been very windy and pouring down rain all day. The temperature has gotten warmer so it's in the mid 40's, but with the wind it sure doesn't feel like it.

7) In the 1990s, Gramm joined forces with Billy Joel in a series of concerts to preserve the Montauk Point Lighthouse. Do you have a favorite Billy Joel song?  Yep, Piano Man.

8) In 1977, when this song was popular, Star Wars was breaking all box office records. The Spy Who Loved Me, a James Bond movie, was also a hit. If you were going to binge on one of these film series, would you choose Star Wars or Bond?  Probably the Bond series. I like the old ones and I do like me some Daniel Craig.

9) Random question: Would you rather have nothing but green lights for all of 2021, or never have to stand in line for anything all year?  The green lights would be great, but I'll take never having to stand in line. Standing still in one spot KILLS my feet more than anything else.

Join in the Saturday 9 fun right here.

  1. You know, I'm not sure I've ever eaten a sardine. Thank you for reassuring me I haven't missed anything.

    1. You're welcome, because in mho...you are missing nothing. They stink, they look weird. I can't bring myself to put one in my mouth. (((shudder)))

  2. I've never eaten sardines and can't imagine that I would like them. I did make pork, kraut, black-eyed peas, potatoes, and corn for dinner today. Trying to cover all the bases to start this new year. Happy new year, Stacy!!

    1. Nope, there are just some things you KNOW you aren't going to like without even trying them...sardines, anchovies, pickled herring...hmm, all of mine seem to be fish. lol I don't think I've ever had a black-eyed pea. I'd be willing to try them, but I'm not especially fond of peas of any kind, either. Happy New Year!

  3. I have eaten sardines with crackers and they are not very bad. Similar to tuna and they are very high in calcium. I like to squeeze lemon juice and add a few drops of my Trappey's hot sauce(more vinegar in it.) I was setting up my crafty planner tonight. I watched Quantico when it was on and I like to watch FBI also. Happy New Year Stacy!

    1. Wellllll...I can eat tuna, but it's not a favorite or anything so I don't know if that's a selling point. lol We are enjoying Quantico but you never know what to think about any of the characters, they are all on both sides of the fence at one point or another and you just don't know who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.

  4. My Mom loves all the little tinned things...sardines, smoked oysters, etc. But I cut get past the odd smell.

  5. My late grandfather loved sardines...anyways...what really surprised me was how fast we the people rolled over and let the gvt. take over everything. ANYWAYS--better leave it at that. lol. Have a great day friend.

    1. Yes, it was surprising how quickly the entire planet shut down. Sigh.

  6. My father loved smoked oysters. For his Christmas stocking I always bought him cans of smoked oysters.
I tried some once and they were okay, but not my choice of food.

  7. No thanks to the sardines. yuck. Glad my hubby never asked for them either. I think he said his dad loved them. I thought they were cat food. LOL. Black eyed peas aren't bad if you cook them with something to make them have some flavor. We made "hopping John" yesterday, which is good over rice. Black eyed peas cooked with some bacon, onions, green pepper, celery. Pretty tasty...and cornbread too. It's a southern thing. I would just as soon have had the pork with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, but my hubby is southern and we live in the south, so when in Rome... LOL. Happy New Year to all of you!!

    1. I guess that makes them like most beans. We love ham and bean soup, but if it wasn't for the ham, the beans would have little to no flavor. When we lived down there I made pork, mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut for New Years and our Southern brothers-in-law thought sauerkraut on mashed potatoes was the weirdest thing they'd ever seen.

  8. I am the same way with standing still. I do not mind if I am in my car, I listen to music or a book, so I am good. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  9. I love your new blog layout!

I haven't seen any of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. I should remedy that.

    1. Thank you! Yes, you should see the Daniel Craig Bond movies...he made Bond great again! Those blue, blue eyes. Sigh.

  10. Daniel Craig has really re-invented that role with that super intent glare of his. Brr! and Gosh! all at the same time!

Yes, it got a bit rough out there in the Land of Politica, and it looks like it will keep being rough for a while. Sad, really.
I can eat sardines on ritz crackers, with a splash of lemon, but not mixed into any thing.. gah! Enjoy the week, and yes, I do love that background, too.

    1. Yes, he has! He is cool and calculating but sexy as all get out! Whew!
No, I don't think things will go smoothly for a long time to come. Too many hurt and angry people out there.
I just can't face sardines no matter what.
Thanks for letting me know about the new look. I agonize over it when I change...and new blogger sure doesn't make it easy.

  11. No sardines for me either. Blah. From one of the gullible people, I suppose. :-) Although not gullible to sardines.

  12. My father loved his sardines, as well. That and herring in cream sauce. A few years ago Tom brought home a jar of that stuff that sat untouched in the refrigerator. I love what you said about forgiving oneself. Maybe that's why I love what another blogger said about resolutions and to-do lists: Hers are "Possibilities list."

  13. Thank you for your answer to #2. I honestly had not framed the seriously bad with the brilliant goodness, and that helps.
