Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Barbra dreams of love. What's something you've been dreaming of, or wishing for, lately? (It doesn't have to be romantic.) A return to all of us being able to have different opinions and feelings about things and it wasn't the end of the world and we didn't feel free to say whatever foul, hateful thing that crossed our minds about other people. I guess I wish we knew how to be civil and love our neighbors again.
2) She sings that she and her lover are oceans apart. Tell us about someone who is far away, and that you wish was nearer this Saturday morning. No one is physically all that far away, but our son who lives maybe an hour away...emotionally he's a million miles away. I wish there was a way to bridge the gulf between him and everyone and everything he came from. He has rejected all of it and cut all contact. It's been over a year now.
3) This was a #1 hit for Streisand, so popular it knocked Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" out of the top spot on the charts. Are you a Freddie Mercury/Queen fan? Waaaaaay more than I am a Streisand fan, but yeah, Queen was huge during my teen years.
4) This song was written specifically for Barbra by Barry and Robin Gibb of the BeeGees. During the late 1970s, when the BeeGees were riding high on the success of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, she let them know she was a fan and would love to record one of their songs. The collaboration went so well that they ended up writing not one but nearly a dozen songs for her. Tell us about something that went way better for you than you predicted it would. Giving the message in church. I got talked into doing that several years ago and I was a nervous wreck for weeks before hand and nearly had an anxiety attack right beforehand. I survived it somehow and it turned out okay. I even did it two more times.

5) Barbra traveled to Miami Beach to record this song in Barry's favorite studio. Have you ever been to Miami Beach? Nope and to be honest, I don't have any desire to go there.
6) Barbra went to Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn. She had a mad crush on one of her classmates. That boy was Bobby Fischer, who grew up to be an international chess champion. Do you remember one of your big high school crushes? Do you know whatever became of him or her? I do and yes, I know what became of him. Let's just say I dodged a bullet there.
7) Barbra is responsible for the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai. It's dedicated to the study of heart disease, its impact on women, and the search for more effective treatment. If you could fund a not-for-profit, as Barbra has done, what cause would you champion? Disadvantaged women and children.
8) In 1980, when "Woman in Love" was popular, Macaulay Culkin was born. He's best known for the Home Alone movies. Have you seen them? If yes, did you enjoy them? I've seen all of them (I think there are 5 at this point...obviously not with Macaulay in them all), but really...only the first two were good.
9) Random question: On social media, people keystroke LOL all the time. When is the last time you literally laughed out loud? Today (Friday) talking with my boss on the phone. I work with some awesome women.
I didn't realize there were so many sequels to Home Alone.
ReplyDeleteI didn't, either, until I bought the whole set out of the bargain bin at Walmart. The grandkids like them, but even they like the two originals best.
DeleteSounds like you and my friend Henry are tracking. He does the reading in Spanish for his church. He is nervous every week, but he's so proud of himself afterward.
ReplyDeleteHe should be! After all he has been through...I find it amazing and wonderful that he can do that.
DeleteGood that you got the experience of speaking. I remember having to do that at work. My supervisor prayed for me in the bathroom. I have only seen 2 Home Alone Movies.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am not quite so nervous now, but it's still not something I'm all that comfortable with.
DeleteYes, yes, yes to #1.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if we will ever see it happen?
DeleteA definite nod to #1. The trouble is, all Nations have allowed unbelievers to take God out of the schools and government and, since nature abhors a vacuum, the devil stepped right in. This is what we've ended up with. It's happened countless times throughout all societies across all eras. We all need Christ to live proper lives. It's going to take something really catastrophic to wake up the spiritual sleepwalkers amongst us.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your post and answers.
Blessings. xx
I agree, Pam, whole-heartedly! It's just that lately it seems even the believers are forgetting the whole thing about "love" and just jumping all over everyone. I know their hearts are in the right place, but their delivery needs some work.
DeleteHi Stacy. I completely agree with you on #1, and you know that I am also experiencing the heartbreak of #2. I was also more of a fan of Barbra Streisand than of Queen. I saw the first couple of Home Alone movies as well. The kids were younger and they liked it. I haven't watched a Home Alone movie for many years now. So glad you work with good people that makes all the difference. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's always nice to find those who are like minded...and yes, I know you have the same heartbreak I do. I pray for your family along with mine...and all the others I am constantly meeting or hearing about who are also experiencing it. Sorry, but I actually liked Queen better than Babs. lol My kids cut their teeth on Home Alone, too. I think the first one came out before my daughter was even born. Gosh, but it doesn't seem like that much time could possibly have passed!
DeleteI didn’t realize there were five movies … stopped watching after the third… I liked the first two.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste your time on the ones after #3. They weren't very good, but they were included in a set I bought out of the bargain bin at Walmart. lol
DeleteGreat answers, esp. #1. Praying for our nation and Afghanistan situation now, and so much more. Looking forward to the Lord's return more and more all the time, but still praying for those who are lost to see the light before it is too late. I enjoyed Barbra Streisand's music, but not her politics. Praying for your son and family too.... Take care and have a blessed and wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am very much looking forward to the Lord's return, though I hope He gives us a while yet. There are so many I hope will accept Him before it is too late. And prayer...I read a great devotion this morning. I may have to share it next week. Blessings on your weekend!
DeleteI am so sad about your son and his family and all they are missing by not reconnecting with all of you. Life is too short. Praying that he will come around. Fun questions and I enjoyed your answers, Stacy. Have a good weekend! xo
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on #1. I respect everyone's opinion. I am way more a Queen fan than Streisand too. I have only seen the first two Home Alone movies. My husband agrees with you on the first two being the only good ones, so I didn't watch any further last Christmas. Prayers for your son. I know that is hard. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

Manners aren't hard, but we are missing those. It would help a lot with your request in #1 if people would be respectful of one another. I did not speak to my father for 10 years after my mother died. Sometimes these breaks can be helpful but I know they are hurtful, too.
