I admit I cheated a bit here. I did a search of hits from 1976, the year I was 12. Lots of good songs there, but this kind of captured the times for me. The Sweathogs were huge!

    Here's the little known I Love Lucy/Welcome Back, Kotter connection: John Sebastian's godmother was Vivian Vance, aka Ethel Mertz. Viv and Jane Sebastian, John's mom, were lifelong friends and Vance got the Lucy writers to work Jane's name into scripts. "Jane Sebastian" was often referred to as a friend of Lucy and Ethel's and a member of their women's club. Thank you. I'm always happy to share the meaningless trivia rattling in my cranium.
