Saturday 9: One Night Standards

We're heading out to visit my biological father today. My half-sister had planned to meet up with us, but she has what she hopes is a cold. She had to get tested for Covid, however, so until the results come back she has to stay home. Bummer. Anyway, I'm linking up with Sam and the gang for the Saturday 9.

Saturday 9: One Night Standards (2019)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The video for this song takes place in a motel and the story is told from the point of view of the desk clerk. Have you ever worked in a hotel, motel, or bed-and-breakfast?  Nope.

2) Ashley McBryde sings that she's not Cinderella, a reference to the fairy-tale heroine warned to return from the ball before midnight. When did you recently stay up until the wee small hours of the morning?  That depends on what you call the wee small hours of the morning. I stay up until midnight all the time.

3) Ashley had been working hard as a singer/songwriter for eleven years before she was discovered and proclaimed one of County's best new artists. What was your life like 11 years ago?  It was pretty awful. Our son and his wife were in one of their earlier periods of not speaking to me and our daughter was in her meltdown period. There were seriously days when I was sure the stress was going to kill me.

4) Ashley is from Mammoth Springs, AR. One of the most popular stops on Main Street -- for locals and tourists alike -- is Spring Dipper Ice Cream. More than 20 flavors are made right there on the premises, from Jamoca Almond Fudge to French Vanilla. When confronted with such a wide selection, do you tend to order your familiar favorite or try something new?  It would depend on what flavors were there. If there was a combo I liked, I'd try it. If not, I'd probably stick to chocolate.

5) In 2007, she moved to Nashville to pursue a music career. Have you ever relocated for a job?  No.

6) Whenever Ashley hears a Carpenters song, she thinks of her mother, who loved Karen Carpenter's voice. Tell us a song that reminds you a loved one.  The Carpenters work. My husband loves them. Or Joe Diffy's John Deere Green reminds me of my adoptive dad.

7) In 2019, the year this song was recorded, Notre Dame Cathedral was damaged in a fire. Have you ever visited Paris?  No. I've never been to Europe.

8) Also in 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (aka Harry and Meghan) had a baby boy. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby?  No, even though my husband's family is amazingly prolific, there are no babies due right now. Which is not a bad thing. I just bought Halloween gifts to send out to all the great-nieces and nephews because of no or limited trick-or-treating and thank goodness I do something different for our grandchildren because not counting the four of them, there are 15!!

9) Random question: Do you always want to hear the truth about yourself?  I should, but the truth is probably not. It kind of depends on the spirit in which the truth is delivered, though. Truth delivered in a way meant to help me be a better person or do better at a job...fine. Truth delivered just to wound...no thanks.

  3. Amen to #9. We don't have anyone---well, we have grand nieces, but my husbands sister keeps her grandkids away from us, whatever...shaking my head.

    Keeping you in prayer.

  5. I am still trying to get over 15 youngsters in your fammily.. What a wonderful family. My family has always been small. Unless if your count when my grands were alive and everyone of the clan got together. But Im an only child married to an only child: we had one child who married an only child. Kind of sad when I right it out that way!!!! We have no aunts and uncles in our generation!

  7. What a bummer about your half-sis; yet it's a good thing she's erring on the side of caution. Hope your trip is/was thoroughly enjoyable! Now I'm thinking to ask Alexa to play some Carpenters while I take a stroll down Memory Lane.

I agree with #9. It seems like so many want to do the truth to wound. Sad really. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.
