The weekend...
Friday...
I spent the morning babysitting the grands while Mommy went to the dentist again. It turned out there was infection in the tooth beside the one that was just pulled, too. Once it's cleared up...root canal.
Friday afternoon I was on the hunt for our daughter's Christmas gift. She asked for a Cricut. I'd explain what that is for those of you not familiar, but I'm not exactly sure what all it does myself. It's a craft thing. No, these days it's THE craft thing. Anyway, they'd always been very expensive when I'd seen them and I didn't know if I wanted to spend that much on one gift during a year that I haven't been working. Friday, I had a bigger problem...Joanne's didn't have any in stock and wouldn't until sometime in January, no one online had any in stock. Uh-oh. I finally thought to check Michael's and bless them, our local store had one in stock and it was on sale! So I got it and then went on Amazon and got a great deal on a beginner's package of tools and supplies to go with it.
We were gone to pick it up when the kids shoveled us out. Since we were out and nearby, I ordered Red Lobster for dinner and we picked that up on the way back home. It was dinner for Tim's birthday the next day. Boy was it good and it sure pays to get the take-out. They gave us so much more food than you get when you eat at the restaurant. Tim had plenty to take leftovers to work for lunch on Saturday.
This was the scene in the yard while were were gone.
Saturday...
I went up to Mom's and we made poppy seed and apricot rolls. I have the recipe to share tomorrow. We didn't have enough dough mixed up to do nut rolls, too, so Mom decided she was going to get some more nuts and make the big, breadier rolls with that filling instead of the little bite-sized pastry ones.
Off the hook for that, I took off to do a bit of shopping. Ugh! What was I thinking, going to Walmart the Saturday before Christmas??? It took me about an hour to shop and then close to another hour waiting in line to check out. Let me tell you...not a lot of Christmas spirit showing there. My feet and ankles were killing me after being on my feet all morning baking and then the endurance test that is Wally World. I popped a couple of ibuprofen and rubbed on some of my "magic" foot cream and took a break when I got home. For dinner we had lasagna since Tim got home at a sort of reasonable time on his birthday. We didn't make a big fuss. He never wants one, but this year was the big 6-0 for him and he REALLY didn't want one.
Sunday...
I had planned to go to church, but I woke up to snow. It was coming down and about an inch of new was on the ground. A quick check of the weather promised more snow and possibly a messy mix before turning to rain and then disappearing after lunch. I opted to stay home safe and warm. Tim was working again...it's always like this when he gets down toward the end of a project...so our daughter came over and we made cookies while her hubby kept a watch on the kids. We made sugar cookie cutouts, snickerdoodles, chocolate crinkles, and oatmeal scotchies. I may bake one or two more kinds if I have time, but if I don't get them made we have plenty of cookies for just the 8 of us because there are the nut/poppy seed/apricot rolls, Oreo balls, and chocolate pretzels and candy. Tim came home earlier than expected. We ordered Chinese for supper and spent a quiet evening...me watching Hallmark movies, him snoozing on the sofa.
Today's plan...
Wrap, wrap, wrap!
You've been busy! And the snow is pretty but I'm glad we don't have deal with it. *smiling* It's a 'balmy' 60 degrees or so here (Southeast Georgia). I've been working outside, bought several cans of non-ethanol gasoline for all the small motors we own. Ethanol is deadly for small motors (corn makes gasoline less fuel efficient). Should be banned like in Europe, but that's another subject, right? *lol*
ReplyDeleteY'all be careful traveling around in all the wet stuff.
Merry CHRISTmas! xx
Whoa...you just lost me. I have no clue about all the fuel alternatives out there. I do remember my dad running our car on gassahol (or however you spell it) back in the late 70's. Wasn't that made from corn? No snow at the moment. Now it's raining, melting the snow and making a big soggy mess. We're to reach 50 on Wednesday and then on Christmas Day the high is only going to be 26! Welcome to winter in southwest PA.
DeleteSounds like a busy, but fun weekend. Happy 60th to your hubby!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I will pass on the birthday wishes.
DeleteYou have been busy! Hope you get the wrapping done and have time to relax before the big day! I had to look up Cricut. Never heard of it and still am not sure what it does after looking at everything on Amazon. Sure isn't a cheap hobby tool!! Wow! I would love to see some of the things she creates with it! Marry Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteI got a lot done, but not quite all of it. I have a couple of oddball things I need to go find giftbags for tomorrow. I am not struggling with wrapping them. No, not an inexpensive machine. I'm not sure how it works, either. I'll try to remember to post pictures when she makes stuff.
DeleteIs the Cricut like the Silhouette machine? I think they are similar. That is what my son used for his sign business, but he doesn't really use it anymore. I've been thinking about asking if I can "borrow" it, but I think his wife wants to start using it, which would be fine too. Sounds like a busy weekend with lots of good food too! And snow!! Sounds like fun to me! Oh to be young again! LOL. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. All those cookies sound SO good. I am trying to gear up to wrap all day tomorrow and bake on Wed. and Thursday, or vice versa. It'll be tiring whatever I decide to do. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI think it is, Pam, and I only say that because now that you ask I remember a Silhouette machine turning up in my Amazon search. Tiring for sure. Between my flat feet, arthritis in my ankles, and degenerative disc disease and arthritis in my back...these long days on my feet baking or wrapping come at a cost. Thankfully, some ibuprofen, pain cream, and taking a break will usually put me back in good shape. The snow has given way to rain and we're winding up with a soggy mess.
DeleteGod bless you tackling walmart the Saturday before the holiday. You couldnt pay me to do that - even without a pandemic - LOL
ReplyDeleteDental issues.... spit spit spit... dont even want to hear it - it freaks me out. I loathe dental issues. Hope she gets all taken care of soon - that's so miserable
Yeah, not really where I wanted to go, but when you need something...
DeleteI am putting off dental work, too, because I hate going. I don't have pain, but I know I will one of these days if I don't go, but I don't wanna go!
So glad you had a good, productive weekend. We stayed home Saturday - I didn't want to brave Wally World the Saturday before Christmas. We had to go a couple of places today and it was only slightly better. I think I can avoid stores the rest of the week now - maybe. Have a good one and stay warm in all that snow! Happy Belated Birthday to Tim!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb. I hope you can avoid stores. I have to go to the butcher shop for a gift certificate tomorrow and pick up a couple of gift cards to send to the grands we won't see, but other than the grocery store that's all I have to do. Soooo glad! The snow has given way to rain and it's a sloppy mess out there now. Blech.
DeleteYou have been busy! I did Sunday Stealing and posted Christmas pictures since the questions were on Christmas. That is great that you could bake all the cookies. Our kids are bring sweets like Mexican bread. Hubby got the stuff for the Mexican hot chocolate. I am posting the recipe on Tuesday 4.
