Saturday 9: Happy Holidays!

Saturday 9: Happy Holidays! (from the archives)

1. As you can see, Sam loved giving her annual wish list to Santa. Yet some children are reluctant to climb into Jolly Old St. Nick's lap. Did you enjoy the tradition or were you shy? Or did you by pass it altogether -- either because you wrote him a letter or because your family didn't celebrate Christmas? As far as I know I never had any problems with Santa. My mom has a collection of photos from every year up until I was about 8. I only have a couple of my kids. My son didn't have a problem that I recall...he just wasn't that into it after he was 4 or 5. My daughter, however, HATED Santa and screamed bloody murder any time we tried to take her near him. Even now she says there is just something creepy about an old guy in a velvet suit prowling around in your house while you are sleeping. Well....when you put it that way!

2. Are you currently on the Naughty or Nice list? How did you get there?  I'd like to think I'm on the nice list. I try to be nice, happy, helpful, etc.

3. Did you ship any gifts to friends and family this year? If so, which one traveled the farthest?  I just ordered a Christmas arrangement to be delivered to my biological father and his wife. They are down near the gulf coast of Texas so I guess that wins the prize.

4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year?  I ordered a couple of shirts earlier this month because they were on sale 50% off, but I don't consider them a gift.

5. What's your favorite holiday-themed movie? Have you seen it yet this year?  It's a tie between A Christmas Story, which I have seen, and Christmas Vacation, which I haven't seen yet.

6. Thinking of movies, Christmas is l
ucrative for Hollywood. Have you ever gone to a movie theater on Christmas Day?  I think we did a few years back when we'd had our family Christmas on Christmas Eve and were alone on the big day.

7. Have you ever suffered an embarrassing moment at the company Christmas party?  I haven't had to suffer through very many company Christmas parties and I've definitely not had any embarrassing moments.

8. What's your favorite beverage in cold weather?  Same as it is in any weather...Diet Coke.

9. Share a memory from last Christmas.  I had my first communication with my biological father not long before Christmas last year and as the holiday neared I received a letter from him that left me speechless and shaking as I read it. Feeling that he had to atone for the sins of the past, he gifted me with a very large financial gift. It was more than enough to have the chance to get to know my father after 55 years, so I used some of his gift to bless my children and grandchildren.

  1. I think your Christmas gift from your bio father is a sweet memory! Oh yes A Christmas Story. We need to see that.

  2. #1 -- My niece, now 28, went through a period when she felt the same about Santa. She told her mother/my sister that she would prefer Elvis bring her gifts. My sister blamed my influence, as my niece and I had just spent the day together watching Elvis movies. I still think it was the funniest thing ever. I love how little kids' minds work.

#9 -- That is an amazing holiday memory.

    1. Elvis! Ha! My daughter went through an Elvis phase. Our hound dog was even named Elvis, so I think she'd have been okay with that choice, too.

  3. I'm the same for #7--the school doesn't have company parties.

    1. I'm pretty grateful I don't have to deal with company parties. The few I had to go to over the years tended to be awful.

    1. Thank you, Linda. I hope you had a good day...though if you worked and your place of employment was as busy as its counterpart here...it probably wasn't a great day. It's my fault. I should have known better than to go there the Saturday before Christmas!

  6. My brother's go to their in-laws one year and then my to my brother's on the other years. So on the off year I usually go to my niece's in New Jersey since she is divorced.

  10. Who could have predicted the connection you and your bio dad (and siblings) have forged? I guess, when you stop to think about it, 2020's brought lots of good, too.

  14. Wow, I never knew about the gift from your father last year, as I've just started reading your blog this year. That is truly amazing and very sweet. And I'm sure he's fine with you doing whatever you think best. He just wanted to bless you. That is so wonderful. I don't recall ever seeing Santa as a child. I know we took our first born baby to see him when he was about 4 months old, but he doesn't remember of course. I do have a picture. I don't think the other two ever went. I enjoyed your answers today. Merry Christmas!!
