A New Year Hodgepodge

I'm really late getting around to the Wednesday Hodgepodge today. I hope I haven't missed all the fun!

1. What advice would you give yourself as we begin this new year?  Don't concentrate on the storm. Keep your eye on the One who controls the storms. In other words, remember that no matter what is happening in Washington, D.C. God is in control and He is still on His throne. If He is allowing the things that are taking place in our government, He has a reason. Personally, I believe He is angry with the U.S. We have taken Him out of everything, we murder our babies, we legalize that which the Bible calls abominations...read 2 Timothy 3. Everything that is good is called bad and that which is bad is called good. We are moving toward the return of Jesus! Hang on to that!

2. If you could throw a themed party for yourself what would the theme be?  Books! What else?

3. Tell us where you were and something about what life was like when you were 20- 21.  I got married just after I turned 20 and a month after that we moved from Pennsylvania to Florida. As a clueless kid (in retrospect I was) I was trying to figure out being an adult and having the time of my life.

4. What's on the menu at your house this week?  I made ranch seasoned chicken tenders and mashed potatoes on Monday...and I broke a tooth. Last night I wasn't home. Tonight we are having tomato soup and grilled cheese. After that I have no idea yet.

5. What should you do more of this year? Focus on the Lord. Less of? Worrying about what the idiots in Washington are doing.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I saw the dentist about my broken tooth today. I expected to get a root canal. It turned out I had one done on that tooth 5 years ago! I don't remember that at all. So, he just smoothed it a bit today and slapped a temporary filling on it. I go back in 2 weeks for a cleaning and exam and to discuss work to be done. It's going to take 3 trips to fix this tooth. At least today and the one in 2 weeks don't cost me anything. Now I'm watching the mess at the Capitol. Funny how the riots this summer were fine and nobody stopped them. Plus, I'm not seeing any violence other than one broken window that they keep showing over and over. The media is again pushing the fear and hate. It's a sad, sad day.

  1. Dental woes-ugh! I am so with you on tuning out Washington. I keep singing that old song...turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will go strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.' It is challenging to tune out the media, politics, and Washington. It's everywhere! Hope you have a wonderful new year and your tooth is an easy fix.

    1. Very wise words. Yes, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. Thanks for reminding me of that song.

  2. Amen! I need to focus more on Jesus' return and less what the lame-stream media is saying. A book party sounds fun, actually!

  3. The media...ugh. I stopped watching the news a couple of years ago & I can truthfully say I'm a much happier person for it!
Glad I'm not the only one who forgets what dental work I've had done! :)

  4. God is in control. I haven't even turned on the news and have scrolled past some of the muck on FB. I enjoyed your post, Stacy, but am sorry for your broken tooth. xo

  5. Oh no, a broken tooth! that's no fun. Today has been really really sad. But yes, God is in control, and I agree with you on your response to #1 above. And I think we will be telling a bunch of people "I told you so" in a year or two when they regret what/who they voted for!!! Praying for our country like never before!!

  6. Yikes. My teeth hurt just reading about the dentist. I think your situation must be better than most, though.
Yes, worrying less should be on my list too. Let's worry less and pray more.
If you have the book party, I hope you invite me :)
