In Latrobe...

The weather... is cloudy and 30 degrees. A high of 39 is expected.

I'm reading... The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. I had never heard about the use of radium in all kinds of things back in the early 20th century, certainly not of the girls who painted clock dials with radium laced paint to make them glow. The horrors they endured are just heartbreaking.

I'm listening to... the local oldies station on the stereo Tim got me for Christmas. It's the first time a radio has ever come in worth anything in this house. By the way, yes, it does bug me that the music of my youth is now on the oldies station (and has been for some time).

There is no review of... Guy Fieri's new restaurant at the casino near us. We had planned to go on Saturday evening. Our daughter and her husband are treating us as a Christmas gift. No luck getting in. The Christmas lockdown just lifted last week so restaurants are allowed to have dine-in again and the restaurant was having it's Grand Re-opening since they were only open for about a week before they had to shut down over the holidays. Allowed to open, they are still limited to 50% capacity for social distancing. It's not a big place and they don't take reservations so the wait to get in was 3 1/2 hours! We decided to eat elsewhere, which also took some doing. Apparently, everyone in the county decided to eat out on Saturday and it was tough finding a place with a reasonable wait. We ended up having Mexican. We'll do Guy's someday when the excitement dies down or at an odd time.

It's shocking... that I have $75 worth of Cracker Barrel gift cards and there wasn't one thing on the website that I wanted to buy.

Mourning... the loss of a wonderful young man who went to school with our daughter. He had heart problems all of his life and many, many surgeries over the years. The most recent last week. It went fine, but something went wrong and he passed away at midnight January 8. The kids all called him Jolly because he was the happiest, sunniest person you'd ever hope to know. His passion in life was tractors and farming so tomorrow there will be a big parade of tractors for him from the church to the cemetery.

I'm (mostly) staying away from... Facebook and all the ugliness there. Mostly I check in once a day to see what's up with family and friends and that's it. It's just too depressing to witness all that anger and hate all the time...and I hate that there are somethings I can't seem to walk away from when I'm there. There is just so much wrong in Washington and the country as a whole right now. Basically, Facebook harshes my mellow.

Celebrating... the kids finished putting down their new flooring, because Nana was getting worn out from trying to keep a fearless 1 year old and a 4 year old busy and out of everyone's hair for 3 days. It looks fabulous!

Today's plans... finishing up organizing our bedroom and moving the bed (we moved the rest yesterday) so we can put the new headboard on the bed, making crock-pot stuffed peppers for supper, and watching the kids this evening while Mommy and Daddy go to the funeral home.

Something to leave you with...

    So cozy!
Did I ever tell you I went to Seton Hill?
It was Seton Hill College then. Still all girls. Still taught by the sweet nuns.
Have a cozy afternoon down there!

  2. Not finding anything you want from Cracker Barrel is shocking!! lol Love, love, love the 'after' of your kids room. I listen to the radio more and more, not much on television that I like to watch.

I was going to ask what exactly "oldies" means... the 60's or even further back... or 80's. THE BEST MUSIC EVER

  8. Wow, I love that transformation!! Is that wood or vinyl plank? We are wanting to remove our carpet in our living room and do that, but we are waiting until we get a stimulus check or tax refund or something with money in it. LOL. I know they will love their new floor. Sorry you couldn't get into the restaurant. Yes, I guess the best thing would be to wait until everyone else has been there and go at an odd time. We always try to go out to eat at odd times so we don't have to wait. Hubby hates to wait and if there is a line he will go home and then I have to cook, and that never works out well for me...LOL. We have very few choices here anyway. I am sorry to hear about your friend who passed away. What a wonderful thing to do, with the tractor parade. I love it when people are creative in their tributes and think about what that person would have enjoyed. That is really special. Yes I am also not spending much time on facebook. I am only leaving scripture verses or positive memes instead of responding to people's hatred. Just flood the place with God's Word instead. Let's see them try and take that off!!! Praying for our country constantly. God is still on the throne, and He knows what He's doing, so I choose to trust Him and let Him handle it. Have a blessed week.
