Thankful Thursday

Linking up with Rebecca Jo to share some thankfulness today.

Today I am thankful for...

A Peaceful Transition. No matter what my feelings are about the way the election worked out, I am glad that yesterday passed peacefully with no violence. And no matter who is sitting in the Oval Office I can and will pray that they make decisions that are fair, just, and good for the people of this country.

God's Peace. I am always thankful for the peace I find in God, but when I watch my daughter collapse, overcome by anxiety and stress, I am reminded of it again. How I wish she would grasp what He offers. At least she listens to me and is open to hearing what I have to say. Planting seeds.

A Cozy Home. On these snowy, January days when the wind is sweeping over the hill we live on, I am very thankful to be snug and warm inside.

Girly Days. It was so nice to spend a day with two friends from Bible study. We went to Hobby Lobby and had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory.

My Book Habit. My stepdad has been feeling kind of depressed lately between Covid, the political climate, and his age and failing health. I gave him two books for Christmas and he loved them. He read them in 3 days! I picked up 3 more for him at Goodwill and he whipped right through them. So, I went through my collection and gathered a big tote full of books I thought he'd like. I also stopped at Goodwill again and picked up a few more. He likes non-fiction which isn't my favorite so Goodwill is a godsend. I'm just glad to have hit on something that has engaged him.

Being an Introvert. Being content with my own company has made me a pro at amusing myself. The aloneness of the pandemic hasn't really bothered me.

Super Cute Bible Tabs. I ordered them from Amazon last week to put on the bible I use for my daily study, but they are so pretty I think I'll save them to put on the new journaling bible I pre-ordered. It won't come out until next month, but it is really pretty, too...it just calls for pretty tabs to match.

Hubby's Vacation. I don't know when it's going to be yet, but it will be soon. Tim's winding down on the current project and is planning to take some vacation time before the next one starts. He will get to rest some, but the main reason is that we're taking the old tub out of the master bath and redoing everything then moving the washer and dryer into the space where the tub was. That will free up the space in the back hallway for a coat area.

Every Sweet Second with the Grands. Maybe it's because of the estrangement from our son and his family, but I treasure every moment with the grands that live next door. Being off work most of last year gave me time to be part of their daily lives and share in good times, quiet moments, and milestones. Their obvious joy at seeing me is a balm to my heart where it is battered by the lack of closeness with the other grandchildren.

All of You. Always, always, I am thankful for each one of you who stops by to visit and for those who have become friends. I treasure your kind words, prayers, humor, encouragement, and advice.

  1. Great post Stacy. I agree with you about our new new POTUS. We are praying for him here - that he can lead our country in righteous. You are so blessed to have your grandchildren close by. I sure miss seeing mine. So nice of your to get books for your stepdad. Reading is such a great habit at any age! Have a good Thursday. Thanks for this upbeat and positive post.

    1. I hope that you can see your grandchildren soon. And yes, reading is a good habit. I've been a big reader since I learned.

  2. Hello!
And I agree with you about being an introvert.
I am perfectly content here in my cozy home, not worrying about drop ins! Have a nice day down there!

    1. Yes, it is nice not to have drop in company. I don't mind company, but I'm not a fan of surprise company.

  3. I always enjoy your thankful posts. Sometimes when reading yours, it reminds me of things in my life that I forget to be thankful for. I am thankful for you too my friend. Isn't it great to consider someone we've never met in real life as a friend. There are lots of bad things about the internet, but there are lots of good things too. Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you, Cathy, and I agree...there are a lot of good things about the internet. I've always made friends through blogging, but it's only been in more recent years that people have stopped looking at me like I'm crazy for calling someone a good friend when I've never actually met them.

  4. Another introvert who is happy with alone time at home! I do have a few good friends that I see on a regular basis, but I am totally content being home and puttering around the house.

I think people are totally panicked about the new administration. People moving into our area (from CA and WA) was crazy last year, but ever since election day, it has been insane. Homes are selling (mostly to out-of-staters) within a couple hours of hitting the market, usually for at least $50,000 more than asking price. As for me, I'm not optimistic at all about the new administration; however, I do trust that God is in control and that he will use this time in our country for His glory...and to draw His people closer to him.

Hobby Lobby and Cheesecake Factory sounds like a fantastic time. I enjoy both those places.

So sorry about your daughter's anxiety. Even with the Lord, anxiety can be debilitating. Without Him, I'm not sure how anyone copes.

    Love and hugs,
    Patti

    1. Judging by my Facebook feed, I'd say you are right. Conservatives are very fearful of where the new administration is going to take us. It's there in the back of my mind, but I refuse to dwell on it. We aren't supposed to get that caught up in the world. Thank you for praying for my daughter. Her anxiety is pretty intense at times. Today she ended up in the ER because she's been feeling unwell, got diagnosed with a UTI earlier in the week, but was feeling even worse. They decided it had reached her kidneys so she's on a much stronger antibiotic now.

  5. I agree with Cathy's comment above that your thankful list oftentimes reminds me of something to also be thankful for. We really are so blessed. Have a good day, Stacy!!

    1. Yes, we are and if my lists remind anyone of any good in their lives, I am thankful for that, too!

  6. I enjoyed your post and the list of things to be thankful for. You have a lot going on in your life with your family around you, etc., and it is so good that you are centered and focused on Christ as He is able to minister through you to the others. I love how you found a way to encourage and engage your step dad with the books. That could be a life saver for him! What a nice thing for you to do. I am not an introvert by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like quiet times at home and I enjoy this outlet to the world that we have here through our blogs. It has become more difficult in these days to really connect with people face to face and form close personal friendships...so I am thankful for this place even though we may never meet in person. I will keep praying for your son and his family and you and also for your daughter and her anxiety issues. (((hugs)))

    1. Connecting face-to-face was tough before the pandemic, but it's impossible to meet new people right now. I think the isolation is part of my daughter's problem. Thanks for praying for her and our son. Add a prayer for healing to the one for our daughter. A trip to the ER today showed that her UTI has reached the kidneys. They put her on a very strong antibiotic and sent her home, but she is miserable.

  7. What a blessing, having discovered something that brings such happiness to your your step-dad! I sure miss having a Cheesecake Factory nearby. I dearly love my husband, but there's something special about breaking bread with good friends.

  8. Hi Stacy, I enjoyed your list of thankfulness. I am thankful for the peaceful inauguration too. I posted my list after watching several episodes of When Calls The Heart on Netflix before they take it off on the 25. I love to watch it on Hallmark. The series is based on the books of Jeanette Oke and have ready many of her books. That is so nice how you are providing your step dad. I use to share books with my grandfather. What Bible journal did you get? Great that you could get together with your friends. Covid is so bad over here and I am not meeting with anyone but family. I too have been content for the most part. As long as I can see my grand kids I am happy. I will keep your daughter in prayer. I have suffered with that in the past.

    1. I went through a phase of reading Jeanette Oake's books...nearly 20 years ago, I think! I've never watched the show, though. I got a new ESV journaling Bible. I can't remember the actual name of it, but it has a really pretty green, floral cover. Other than that, it's not super fancy...it just has the wide, lined margins. I didn't get it specifically to decorate with art, but I may. I'm just going to make notes and create as I feel moved. I'm glad you can see your grandkids. It would kill me not to see mine at this point. I've gotten so close to them over the last year. Thank you for praying for my daughter. She is pretty sick with that UTI. She went to the ER today because of it and they said it has reached her kidneys.

  9. Hope daughter does ok
Anxiety and stress often can be helped by meds...really serious illnesses...

    1. Thank you. She does take meds, but I'm thinking maybe not the right combination. Or maybe the UTI is messing with her since we found out today that it has reached her kidneys.

  10. I am so grateful that the inauguration went peacefully. I was scared that we were going to see violence, and don't think my heart could have born that.

I did come by to tell you I was thank you for your kind words about brain injuries. You were very wise, you have experience, and I appreciate your sharing it.
