Thankful Thurday

I'm linking up with Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand

for a little Thankful Thursday goodness.

This week I am thankful...

** for beautiful blue skies, sunshine, and temperatures more fitting for June than April.

** my mom's recovery from knee replacement surgery continues to go well. She sees the surgeon today so we will find out where she goes from here.

On a side note, it is just so weird when it hits you for the first time that your mom is getting...old. I stopped up to visit yesterday and found her in her recliner wearing long slacks with surgical hose under them and fuzzy slipper socks, a long sleeve sweater, and covered up with 2 afghans. That could be normal, but it was 80 degrees outside and her house was closed up tight as a drum with no windows open or fans running so it was like 85 or more in there. That's when it hit me that she was like the residents at the nursing home who were never warm no matter how hot it was. Old.

** for a wonderful Easter weekend with family and friends.

** Colton and I had an afternoon out yesterday, just the two of us.

** my new exercise machine came yesterday. I got it because my doctor says strengthening my core muscles will help with my back pain, but I can do a lot more on it than that. It isn't very big or heavy, but it can be used for sit ups, push ups (yeah...), crunches, curls and presses (no, that doesn't have anything to do with hair), pedaling, lunges. I can even use it to do some of the exercises physical therapy gave me for my hips. I can't wait to try it out today.

** Tim and Colton took the plastic eggs off the tree in the yard last night. I had to put them up. Twice. (Thank you big wind storm.) It seems fair.

** Megan seems to be handling her anxiety and depression a lot better now that she's been taking Cymbalta for a while. Between that and her hubby changing to afternoon shift from midnight shift, life is almost back to normal around here.

Now we need to find her a hobby. She gets bored so easily. Always has. She's never been able to amuse herself and always wants someone to fill that need. So now she's here with the kids nearly every evening from around supper time until she takes them home for baths and bed. We love seeing them, but sometimes you just want to relax. That's especially true for Tim at the end of a long work day.

Still, I'm very thankful she is doing so much better. I have to keep reminding myself...baby steps...baby steps.

** I have hardly been on social media at all in the past week. And I haven't missed it. God is breaking that hold. Hallelujah!

** for a big container of the garlic hummus in the frig. My Bible study group makes it every year as part of our middle eastern meal at Passover. I love the stuff and this year I took some extra ingredients and mixed it up right along with the rest.

And guess what? Leah likes it! She sat and ate a bunch of it with flat bread while she watched a movie the other day. It's nice to have one not-picky eater in the family!

** I signed us up to try out the PureFlix streaming service. I knew there were some Christian films on there that I wanted to watch, but there is so much more. It's going to keep me busy!

** that every day is one day closer to Mom's constantly barking dog going home!

** we are all healthy, safe, and happy.

** as I always am, for each one of you!

  1. It's been really beautiful here too, but it's raining today. But that's okay. I guess, we gotta have rain too.
Glad to hear your daughter is doing better. I'm not sure I've ever tried hummus.

    1. I think we are getting the rain tomorrow...or at least thunderstorms in the afternoon. I've tried lots of hummus, but I don't like most of it. I like ours and the hummus at the Springfield Grille in Boardman, OH.

  2. Hi Stacy, I am glad to hear your grand daughter is feeling better. I do understand your need to have quiet time. That exercise thing looks interesting. I think my daughter is realizing that I am aging too. I will be 66 this summer and I can't do the things I use too. Don't feel cold yet. Have a great rest of your week!

    1. 66 isn't so old, but I know what you mean. I will be 57 and there are lots of things I can't do like I used to. It's just that Mom seemed to go from an older woman to a little old lady overnight!

  3. It's been a hidden blessing for me that the Brown Shirts on FB restricted my account. I feel totally weaned off that cesspool. To God be the glory! Life is too short to worry about anything as silly as that. I've been learning to trust Him more by listening to Pastor Chuck Swindoll's radio sermons on our local GNN (Good News Network). I listen to him during the week. Anyway, I may stay gone from FB except to watch home improvement video's and such.
Praying that Megan continues to improve and that your Mom does well. It is hard to watch our loved one's age. Thankfully, in Christ there's an end to all this when we're with Him forever.
    Sending Love & Prayers xx

    1. Thanks for your prayers. :) Are you still in FB jail? I still check in with family and a few friends, but that's it for Facebook. I don't post much, either. I don't think we get GNN here. I've never heard anyone mention it, at any rate.

    1. Thanks, Terri. I hate when that happens. I get so frustrated that sometimes I just give up and don't comment. I'm glad you still did, though. :)

  5. My need to get on social media has slacked so much too & i'm actually grateful for it - it just gives me anxiety anymore.
OHHH - I cant wait to hear more about your new exercise contraption. Let me know what you think.
Yep... I felt that same way about my parents. Its a big realty change, isn't it? Glad to hear she's going well with her recovery

    1. Unfortunately, I didn't get to use it today. I ran errands all morning and then Colton came to play in the afternoon. By the time we got done with supper I knew it wasn't happening today. Yes, older parents are definitely a reality check. Then there's the thought that Tim and I are now older than our parents were when we got married. How the heck did that happen???

  6. I know I am getting older too. I am like my mother was in her "old age"...I want to keep a sweater in the car for when we go out places like restaurants that are too cold. I often find myself wearing a flannel shirt in the house over my other clothes because I get chilled, but then I get hot and off it flies! LOL. Once in a while I still have hot flashes, but not as many as I used to. I am glad your mother is getting better, and I know you will be relieved when she is up and around better, and her doggy can go home. I do hope that Megan will continue to feel better too, and that soon she won't be quite as dependent on you every day. One step at a time. I am not on FB nearly as much anymore, and it is getting easier and easier to just stay away. I check in and check up on family and friends, but I stay away from things that cause me stress. I don't watch hardly any news anymore either. It causes too much distress and I can't do a thing about it but I do pray. That's the BEST thing we can do. I enjoyed your post. Your exercise thing looks interesting. I can't imagine how it can do all those things...but I am sure it will be good for you to try!! Keep us posted. Have a great evening.

    1. Oh, I am guilty of the sweater in restaurants thing. They always have the air conditioning cranked up so high! Yes, we will be soooo glad when Mom's dog can go home. She isn't bad, but the barking... She barks every single time I do anything other than sit still, when she goes out she barks at everything that moves or looks like it might move. She barks at what she can see or hear out the window when she is inside. She barks the whole time she plays with the kids. It makes our dog bark along with her. To make it worse she has a very loud, higher pitched bark. My ears are ringing with it. I honestly suspect that Mom and John are enjoying the break from her. John could come and visit her...we live next door...but he doesn't. It seems like a lot of people are staying away from FB or at least cutting way back. I really don't find it that appealing any more. We hadn't been watching news, but Tim has started turning FOX News on when he gets home and keeping it on for a couple of hours. I watch a little but end up tuning it out. It just makes me so angry and frustrated to listen.

  7. I haven't scrolled Facebook since mid-February! I don't miss it all, and now that I have broken the habit, I don't want to go back. I had decided to go off FB for Lent, but Easter came and went and I have decided the FB is something I don't really need in my life. I scroll Instagram for just a minute maybe once a week. I did post some pictures of our trip to St. George, but no scrolling! So glad your daughter is doing better. Sounds like your springtime is going well. Have a great weekend and I will see you again soon!
