Saturday 9: Bang!

I'm linking up and playing along with Sam and the gang at Saturday 9 even though I will be out all day and won't get to visit all of you until this evening. There's an all-day women's conference at church and then I am sitting with a client so his grandmother can go out for dinner with her special someone.

Saturday 9: Bang! (2020)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a young man who is living on his own and doing adult things, like getting his own apartment, eating better and doing his own taxes, but he doesn't yet feel grown up. Do you remember when you felt like a grown up?  When I became a mother. There is nothing like being responsible for another human life to make you feel grown up.

2) He mentions not being sure of his login password. Is this something you struggle with? Or are you able to zip into your accounts?  I have a notebook that they are all recorded in. I'd never get into any of my accounts without it.

3) Both the video and CD cover show the band playing games of chance. What's the last game that you played?  Does solitaire on my phone count?

4) This week's featured band, AJR, is named for the three brothers who make up the trio -- Adam, Jack and Ryan Met. Until recently, all three brothers lived at home and wrote songs together in the Met family living room. Do you have siblings? If so, what's something you enjoy doing together? The only siblings I have are half-siblings and I only found out about them 2 years ago. I have met with my sister twice and one of my brothers once (the other barely has anything to do with the family) and we get along okay, but there's no history there and there's been no time to really find things to do together. None of them live anywhere near me.

5) The oldest Met brother, Adam, now lives with his girlfriend in an apartment near Columbia University, where he is a PhD candidate. During the school year, he only works on his music on weekends. Next summer, in 2022, he should be done with his studies and plans on touring the country with the band. Some tour dates are already scheduled. If possible, do you like to make plans far in advance? Or do you prefer spontaneity?  Other than a big event or vacation, I don't plan things that far in advance. I'm usually more of a spur of the moment person.

6) Jack and Ryan also attend Columbia and share an apartment with their dog. They like to unwind on Fridays, after a week of classes, with a game of air hockey, followed by sushi or sashimi at their favorite Japanese restaurant. What did you do on Friday night?  Babysat the grandkids to give their mom a little break. We ordered pizza and watched Halloween movies.

7) In 2020, the year this song was popular, the most streamed TV show was The Office. The show went off the air in 2013, but during the pandemic and quarantine, it found a new audience. What series have you binged on recently?  NCIS: New Orleans

8) According to Amazon, the best-selling novel of 2020 was Where the Crawdads Sing. Is there a novel you'd like to recommend to Sat 9ers?  Nothing is coming to mind. I've been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately. They're fun, easy reads, but not exactly great literary works.

9) Random question: Your local drug store has self-check out. You confess to your best friend that you absent-mindedly missed scanning an item, walked out of the store with it, set off security and were caught unintentionally shoplifting. The store manager believed you so there were no repercussions, but you were mortified nevertheless. Would you expect your best friend to share your embarrassing story with his/her spouse?  I'd be shocked if she didn't. Plus, I wouldn't be embarrassed over an honest mistake.

  1. I'm a spur of the moment type as well. There are some things I plan for...all my logins in saved on the computer. I change them up once a month.

  2. I wish I got into "cozy mysteries"....they sound so comforting. I just can't seem to get interested, and I don't know why...

    1. Well, there are some good ones, but there are also some that are just plain (as someone below said) inane.

  3. NCIS ... I just can't. I'm too upset about Mark Harmon/Gibbs. I love him. My Cousin Rose and I are consoling one another with Rule #11: "When the job is done, walk away."

    1. What are you upset about Mark Harmon for? His upset with Paulie Perrett?

    2. I know. I'm a Gibbs fan, too. It took me a bit to warm up to it, but I like NCIS New Orleans now...though, they did just tick me off by killing off one of the main characters.

  9. I've never watched NCIS or Law and Order. Just not into those crime shows. Read enough about it in the newspaper to not want to see it on TV, I guess.

    1. I can understand that. I'm getting to where I don't like the really intense ones any longer.

I read anything Mystery, and yes,Cozy Mysteries also. Some of them are a little inane but sometimes that is just what you need to quell the mind!

  12. Hi Stacy - I'm not sure how I missed this post. Probably missed it because we were out of town and got home Saturday afternoon. As you know, I was raised an only child too, and met my half-sibs when I was in my 20s so we have been connected for a while, but still aren't close - you are right when you aren't raised together, it is hard to have shared experiences. I need to do more Cozy Mysteries. I like mysteries but some of the suspense/mysteries I have checked from the library lately are just too dark for me. Yes, you are right about becoming a parent - makes you grow up right away! Hope you are having a good week.
