Saturday 9: Vision of Love

Saturday 9: Vision of Love (1990)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics refer to "sweet destiny." Do you believe in destiny?  Sort of. I believe that God has laid out plans for each of our days, but since He gave us free will it's up to us whether we follow that plan.

2) This week's artist, Mariah Carey, has something to fall back on. She studied cosmetology and worked as a hair sweeper in a salon. When you get your hair cut, do you socialize with the stylist?  I always have to some extent, but I changed to a new salon and stylist at the beginning of the year. My new stylist is someone I went to high school with so we talk a LOT.

3) She isn't likely to turn to cosmetology any time soon. Mariah is currently on the best seller list with her autobiography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. Was the last book you finished fiction or non-fiction?  Fiction. I've been on a bit of a kick with seasonal romances...both fall and Christmas themed ones.

4) So far, more than 800 people have reviewed Mariah's book on Amazon. Do you review products/services online?  Sometimes, but more often not. I'm more inclined if they are satisfied with how many stars I'd give it. Unless I totally love or hate something I hate to do a written review.

5) When she was a high school student, she was nicknamed "Mirage" because she skipped class so often. Did you ever play hooky?  I plead the 5th.

6) Mariah doesn't apologize for spoiling her dogs, who have been known to travel by limo. Do you know anyone who treats their pets like people?  Lots.

7) In 1990, the year this song was popular, Martina Navratilova won the Wimbledon Women's Singles Tournament. How's your tennis game?  What tennis game? I haven't played tennis since college and I didn't play very well then.

8) Also in 1990, Pope John Paul II toured Mexico. Have you ever visited our neighbor south of the border?  No.

9) Random question(s): There are Gofundme campaigns for many purposes. Have you ever solicited funds online? Would you?  I never have and I don't think I ever would for myself, but might for someone else in desperate need.

You can play along with the Saturday 9 right here.

  1. Let's just say that when it comes to tennis, we're well matched.

  3. I have a feeling there won't be very many tennis players amongst the Sat 9 gang. I find it frustrating to be constantly asked to review items. Or rate a store. If a book already has 800 reviews, I don't see where my review is going to make much difference.

    1. I agree completely! And I find it more than a little annoying that if I haven't reviewed something on Amazon with a couple of months Alexa will start asking me and keep asking me until I tell how many stars I give it.

  5. I am the sameway with reviews, I have to really like it to write a review and I only wrote one negative review. The food was excellent, the staff horrible. She was more interested in talking to her friends than waiting on customers. I didn't leave her a tip but gave the tip directly to the cooks

  6. I am kind of the same with reviews. If I really love something I will write a review, but I am much more likely to do the stars. I always give a star rating for books on Goodreads, but if I really enjoy the book a lot, I will review it. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  8. I also look at the number of stars given, but also know that when our Echo asks me to rate an item I bought, she says "do you give it five stars" and I usually say "yes" just to be done with her. I also realize that some of the written reviews are paid reviews... Fun questions again this week! Happy weekend!

  9. Like you, unless I feel REALLY strongly I'm not inclined to review a book (or a hotel). I've even quit going to Goodreads. More often than not I've bought something solely because of readers' stars ... and been disappointed. Everybody's tastes are so subjective! Happy weekend!

    1. Isn't that the truth? I rarely read reviews for movies or books because it never fails that if the reviews pan it, I will love it!

  10. I skipped plenty of classes in college--I don't know why I didn't think of that until now.

  11. I see that I read number for wrong so I guess I did not answer it correctly. That's what happens when you blog past bedtime like me. I have been watching Hallmark movies and crafting today. At least I can see pretty fall trees on tc while it is in the 90's outside! Happy Sunday!

  13. Well, lookie there...Dawn is commenting above...and we were just talking about her the other day, both of us being Random Journal Days alumni! Hi Dawn, if you come back and look! LOL. Anyway, Stacy, I never could play tennis, being a leftie is my excuse. I prefer to read fiction these days (except for the Bible). It is my relaxation. But I haven't read much all summer/fall due to the pandemic and the library being closed. It is open now, so I will probably start checking out books again for the winter months when it gets dark so early and those long winter nights give time to read. Have a great week. I'm a little late to this party.
