A Snowy Thankful Thursday

Good morning! It's a marshmallow world out there today. The snow has finally stopped. Our total?

It's quiet out there this morning. Most schools, if not already doing online classes because of Covid, are either delayed or closed today as we begin to dig out. I have shoveled part of the walk and a small area in the yard for Daisy several times, but I have no intentions of trying to dig out my car or the driveway. This stuff is wet and HEAVY! Maybe Tim will get home in time to use the snow blower or maybe some enterprising kids will come along and offer to do it for a reasonable price. There is nowhere I need to go so it's all good. I'll spend the day baking and wrapping gifts.

It is Thursday, however, so first things first. That means linking up to Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand for Thankful Thursday.

This week I am thankful...

**for good medical facilities nearby. Our daughter finally got an MRI yesterday morning to determine the size and location of her ovarian cysts and a fibroid tumor. This info is needed for the doctor to be able to decide which type of hysterectomy to perform...the traditional major surgery or the laparoscopic surgery. Praying for the later so the recovery will be quicker.

Also thankful her primary care doctor was willing to see her yesterday even though she had an appointment scheduled for today. She has been experiencing headaches and a general feeling of unwellness. She's been monitoring her blood pressure and it has been elevated. The last few days it's been very elevated. At the doctor's office yesterday it was 170/115! She has to get a lot of bloodwork done and a few other things and they are putting her on medication. The pharmacy closed early last night so she couldn't get it yesterday. Hopefully, she can get it and get started on it today.

**for the beauty of the snowstorm. I have some photos I took last night. I will take some more today when the sun is up.

That last photo shows the snow coming down and see that fence with the blue lights? The snow is just a few inches under the lights this morning! We got another 4-5 inches after I took these photos last night.

**that I don't have to go anywhere today.

**Tim made it home safely last night. It took him 2 1/2 hours to get home from the other side of Pittsburgh...about a 60 mile drive.

**my Bible study group got together Tuesday evening...before the snowstorm. We enjoyed a great time of fellowship, good food, and laughter...as well as exchanged gifts.

**my little nighttime adventure yesterday wasn't anything serious and I didn't get hurt beyond being stiff and sore. Still just a bit sore today, but that may be from shoveling all that heavy, wet snow.

**for all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who are working such long hours and making such big sacrifices right now to meet the needs of all those with Covid.

**this year and all its trials seems to have awakened a lot of people to what is important in life. I love seeing more thankfulness.

**my family continues to remain healthy.

**we have good books, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Frndly, Prime Video, and the internet to keep us occupied. So many choices...and still so much less than cable!

**for my relationship with the Lord. I am blessed to know the peace that Jesus gives and to know that God is who he says he is and that he does what he says he will do. He is the God who is always faithful and always keeps his promises. I don't know how people are getting through these times without him. He is the only thing that can make sense of our crazy world.

**as I always am, for each one of you.

Blessings on your day!

    1. I am glad we weren't in the zone up in NY where they got 41 inches! Back in Dec. of 1992 we got a little over 3ft. dumped on us in a 24 hour period. It was actually kind of scary. I was snowed in with a 4 month old and a 6 year old. Nobody could get anywhere and Tim didn't come home for 3 days because the stone quarry he was working at sent him and one of the giant loaders to remove snow. It was before everyone had cell phones so I had no idea where he was. It was wild. They had to haul the snow away in trucks because there was nowhere left to put it. Then in March of 1993 we got nearly as much in one day. Thankfully Tim was home because I got sick as a dog with strep throat and he had to drive me in his truck to the ER for a penicillin shot. His sister was stuck with us so she stayed with the kids. I do not need to ever have that much snow again...at least not all at once.
I had to do a little shoveling today (dog) but between that and what I did yesterday and hiking to my mom's and over to our daughter's through 13-15 inches has my stupid IT-bands screaming again. Back to the stretches.

  2. Your snow pictures are beautiful! We were supposed to get a couple of inches, but it was just a dusting and the rest melted!

I really like your last 3 thankfuls. We have those channels now too and are planning to go next week to cancel the cable. Hoping it will make a big difference in our bill as we never watch cable any more anyway. I especially like your remarks on your faith and that He does just what He says He will do always! Amen

I'm thankful for you too. Stay safe friend!

    1. We are saving about $175 dollars a month by not having cable and we share the streaming services with our daughter's family since you can have more than one device on all of them. So we aren't paying for all of them. They pay for Netflix and Disney. The most expensive thing we pay for is Hulu Live. It's something like $56 per month, but it has around 50 channels that you can watch the shows on live when they are airing. It's nice for the news if nothing else.

  3. Wow, that's a good old fashioned snow storm! I do pray everyone is safe and warm, but it is such fun to see it when you don't have to get somewhere in a hurry. I will be praying for your daughter. I hope she can get by with the lap. surgery as opposed to the other. I had the other for similar reasons when I was 50. Thankfully I didn't have any little kids to still take care of. I pray she will do fine either way, and that the BP will get under control quickly. Y'all just need to take it easy and not overdo it. Enjoy your beautiful snow while it lasts....

    1. Thank you for the prayer. My girl needs it. Because it crossed my mind today that until she gets the blood pressure under control they probably won't do the surgery at all.

  4. I am thankful for YOU! Glad you don't have to go out in that wet, heavy snow! I remember those times. Ugh! I enjoyed your thankful list and agree completely being thankful for medical personnel. Amen! xo

    1. Ugh, for sure. I don't mind a couple of inches of snow here and there, but blizzards, they can keep!

  5. Beautiful snow but I'm thankful we don't have to deal with that at my ripe old age. *grin* It is pretty though.
So sorry to hear about your daughter suffering from ovarian cysts and a fibroid tumor. I had those ailments plus endometriosis. It was a terrible time and I was only in my early 30s. Eventually had to have a complete hysterectomy. I never could have children. That just broke my heart. Took me a long time to get over it. If it wasn't for Jesus, I would still be suffering. I give God the glory for not only healing my body but also my heart. He is so good.
Y'all be safe. Prayers for a better tomorrow for all of us. xx

    1. She used to think she had endometriosis, but they did finally rule that out. She is only 28, but she has been having so many problems and feeling awful for several years at this point. If it will give her relief and get her back to normal we're all for whatever it takes! I am sorry you couldn't have children. To be honest we were all shocked at how easily she got pregnant both times...but her pregnancies were nearly the death of us all. She was miserable and made us miserable, too. Oh, praise the Lord for his healing mercies! I wish my girl would find that peace of mind.

  6. You received much more snow than I did. I hope your daughter is able to have the laparoscopic surgery. I had a hysterectomy at 29 - but not before I'd had 8 other surgeries while we were trying to conceive. Whatever she does, suggest physical therapy to rebuild her core muscles. Nobody ever told me to do that and it has caused me tremendous problems in my later years.

  7. The snow looks so pretty. It is in the high 50's today and that is freezing for us! I hope your daughter can have the less evasive surgery! Take care of yourself!

  8. Beautiful snow images! Thank you so much for sharing. That's scary about your daughter's BP; I'm holding her in my prayers. Mostly, thank you for reminding us of ordinary reasons to be thankful!

  9. Still no real snow here in Chicagoland. You've got it all! Hearing you go on about shoveling reminds me of my late mom. She insisted on doing it herself, long after it was safe for her to do so. The only way I could stop her was to give her a snow removal service for her birthday each year. As a child of the Depression, she was constitutionally unable to let anything go to waste and so she let the service handle it. Anyway, shoveling can be a big ass chore, and I'm glad you let the heavy wet snow go.

    1. Oh my gosh...that would be a wonderful present! As would a cleaning service. I don't think my family will ever take that hint, though. lol
