Saturday 9: Bills, Bills, Bills

Linking up with Sam and the rest of the Saturday 9 gang today. Thanks for providing the questions and music week after week Sam!

BILLS, BILLS, BILLS (1999)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a cheating boyfriend. Unlike most songs, where the lover deceives by seeing another, this one squanders his girl's financial resources. She sings that he's ruined her credit. Do you know your credit score?  Nope. We do our best to not use credit.

2) How often do you pay your bills? Do you handle them as they come in, or do you pay weekly, bi-weekly or monthly? Or are you lucky enough to have someone else handle your bills?  Monthly.

3) Destiny's Child had a hit with "Bills, Bills, Bills." This girl group got their start in Houston, TX. During the recent, bruising storm, lead singer Beyonce sent food, money and water to her home state. Have you spent much time in the Lone Star State?  No. I've been in both the Dallas and Houston airports, but that's it. My biological father spends his winters there and we have a niece in Houston so maybe I'll get there one of these days.

4) Beyonce is the breakout star of the group and went on to have a highly successful solo career. Can you think of another star who began his/her career as the member of a group?  Justin Timberlake

5) "Bills, Bills, Bills" was performed a cappella by the kids on Glee. That Fox show ran for six seasons. Were you a fan?  I loved it, but didn't get to see it all that often.

6) In 1999, when this song was on the charts, SpongeBob SquarePants premiered. The show remains popular among the younger set. Have you ever seen it?  Lots of times. Our daughter was the right age to grow up with Sponge Bob.

7) SpongeBob has become an industry, spawning movies, a Broadway musical, video games and both coloring and comic books. Once considered children's amusements, today coloring and comic books enjoy a following among adults. Have you recently enjoyed coloring or reading a comic book?  I tried to color with my granddaughter the other day, but she kept grabbing the crayons out of my hand.

8) Also in 1999, Walmart expanded to the United Kingdom. Do you shop at Walmart?  Yes. It's not my favorite store, but there isn't anything else in town that carries all the things they do. We've got one clothing store that's about the size of a walk-in closet, two local grocery chains (which I do shop in), Tractor Supply, Big Lots, and two Dollar Generals. Unless I want to drive a ways down the highway, Walmart is where I go.

9) Random question -- We've all met people who aren't exactly as they present themselves. Are you good at spotting a phony?  Usually.

  1. If you don't mind me going all bossypants on you, you really should keep an eye on your credit score. If it suddenly goes down, it could mean that someone has applied for or opened a card in your name.

    I like picturing #7.

  2. I remember watching Justin Timberlake with my daughter. He was on the Disney Channel and my daughter use to watch him. I like the way he sings. That is cute how your grand daughter was taking away your crayons. Is is pretty young. I posted some pictures from my Lent study on my Thursday post. Have a nice weekend Stacy.

  4. Ha on the stores...same here...I use to think living in a small town was the way to go...but having a lack of variety does get to me at times. sigh.

  5. It really stinks, the way WalMart and Dollar General prey on small town America. And the way the other chains can't be bothered. I know how you feel--I live in a small town, but fortunately, am close to a city.

  9. I am like you - Walmart is the closest store with the things we need. We have two other grocery stores and that is where I mostly shop, but sometimes one simply has to go to Walmart.

  10. We've been all over Texas. It's my second favorite State to visit and/or live in after Georgia. They speak my language. *lol*
I know our credit score too. We try to never use the Credit Card except for on-line orders and utilities. 99.99% of the time it gets paid off at the end of the month. Keeps one out of trouble.
    Y'all stay warm! xx

  11. Texas used to be my favorite state. (At least the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro.) Glee was a fun show; can't say I've ever seen Sponge Bob. It wasn't always so, but I've worked hard for my credit score and don't want to risk it by putting anything on credit.

  12. I agree with The Gal ... if you’re not using your credit, an identity thief might be ...

  13. The only store in my town is a super Walmart--I buy a online so that I can avoid going in, but even then, I don't buy much from there.

  14. Your little grand daughter sounds like a darling. My grandkids would be in their twenties by now. Not babies anymore.

Gal's right. If you ever do need or want to use your credit rating to get a card, even if no one steals it, you'll likely not get the best rate.
