Saturday 9: Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral

Saturday 9: Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral (1944)

Selected because this Wednesday is St. Patrick's Day. Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Bing Crosby sings that he learned this song from his mother. Can you recall a song from your early childhood?  When You Wish Upon a Star because of The Wonderful World of Disney.

2) Bing was NBC's first choice to play TV's Columbo. He turned down the role because, by that time, he was in his 60s and just didn't feel like working a full week anymore. Peter Falk eventually got the part and played Det. Columbo for 10 seasons. Do you enjoy detective stories, whether on TV, in movies or in books?  Absolutely and I'm a big Columbo fan!

3) Bing could trace his family back to County Cork. While it's said that on St. Patrick's Day everyone is Irish, can you honestly claim Irish heritage?  Yes, I have some documented Irish heritage, but I'm more Scot and English.

4) Other than St. Patrick, what is Ireland famous for?  Drinking? Leprechauns? Potatoes?

5) "The wearing o' the green" is one way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Will you wear something green in honor of the day?  If I have anything green. I'm not sure I do. I can always wear my Irish Princess crown or my shamrock antennas.

6) Have you ever had green beer?  I don't really like beer to begin with and dying it green doesn't help, so no.

7) Have you ever ordered a Shamrock Shake from McDonald's?  I've tried them, but I don't think I've ever ordered one of my own. I don't think mint and ice cream go together.

8) A four-leaf clover is considered good luck. Do you have a lucky charm?  No. I don't believe in luck.

9) Speaking of Lucky Charms, they are magically delicious.  What brand of cereal is in your kitchen right now?  I do love chocolate Lucky Charms, but right now we have corn flakes and Capt'n Crunch's All Berries for the kids. I do 16-hour fasting so don't eat breakfast.

Thanks to Sam @ Saturday 9 for the music and questions!

  1. I love eating Lucky Charms but don't eat cereals anymore. I have to be careful with sugar. So I would rather have my sweet coffee creamer!

  2. I didn't know there were Chocolate Lucky Charms! Since my niece and nephew have grown up, there are kid-centric things I just haven't kept up with.

    1. I was in that boat with my kids grown and no longer leading youth group, but now the grandkids are growing and I'm learning right along with them...and possibly using them as an excuse to indulge in kid cereal or go see a Disney movie. lol

    1. We watch Columbo reruns every Saturday night. I know some find it annoying to know who committed the crime from the beginning, but I love the twist of watching him play with the person and trick them into his trap. He's a smart cookie!

  6. PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Mint and ice cream go together very well. My husband made mint choc. shakes the other evening and it was very good, ok it might have had Kaulua in it, but it was so good!

Have a great weekend friend. smiles

    1. Well, I will concede that Kaulua would greatly improve it, but nope, still not in favor of mint in my ice creamy things.

    1. I never watched Columbo when he was originally on or any of his later movies. I just started watching a few years ago on one of the oldies channels.

  9. I need some shamrock antennas! We are never in school for St. Patrick's Day, it typically falls on Spring Break, so I would not get to wear them much. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

    1. Now that I'm not working, I really don't get to wear all that stuff any more, either. I'll probably just pop 'em on for a minute to make the grands smile.
