1) They lyrics tell us that no matter how low the singer feels, it will raise his spirits to recall the way his lover looks tonight. Share a special moment in your life that brings a smile to your lips, no matter what. These days it's just about anything the grandkids, do. Because I've always said "Hi, baby" or "Bye, baby" to our youngest granddaughter, she now uses the same greeting for everyone. It just tickles me when she leaves, waving her hand and calling "Buh-eye-eee, baby!" Then she will call "Hug!" and run back for one...about 10 times before she will leave.
2) This song was introduced by Fred Astaire in the 1936 movie, Swing Time. It won the Oscar for Best Song. What's your favorite movie song? I'm an 80's girl and my favorite movie is Dirty Dancing so while I like the theme song, Time of My Life, I like music with a faster beat so I love Do You Love Me from the staff party scene.
3)Though today Fred is revered as a Hollywood legend, producers had to be convinced to give him a shot. The initial notes on his screen test were: "Can't act. Slightly bald. Also dances." Tell us about a time when someone underestimated you. My former boss comes to mind. She did not like me for whatever reason, and after telling me to do something she would always lecture me not to screw it up/do it wrong/etc. I loved it when the residents and their families responded to me and not to her. It happened quite a bit. She was not a very nice person.
4) Fred's legion of fans includes Jackie Chan. The martial arts star says Astaire's movies influenced the way he choreographed the Kung Fu fight sequences in his films. Mr. Chan is one of the most popular film stars in the world. Have you seen any of his movies? Yep. My husband really liked his movies back during his heyday, so I've probably seen them all or close to it.
5) Fred was always fascinated by new things. In the 1970s, when he was in his late 70s, he took up skateboarding and became so good at it he was awarded life membership in the National Skateboard Society. Have you been skateboarding? If not, is it something you're tempted to try? I seem to remember giving it a half-hearted try back in the 70's. I didn't have a skateboard and didn't want one. I just tried out my friend's board. As for would I try it now. Not unless paramedics with strong pain meds were standing by.
6) Fred's friends were amused by his passion for daytime soap operas. In the days before video recording, he would call home from the club house at the golf course and ask his maid what had happened that day on his favorite "story," As the World Turns. Is there a show you try not to miss? A soap opera? I used to be hooked on Another World and Days of Our Lives but I haven't watched them since my daughter was born...nearly 29 years ago. When she went down for a nap, I had better things to do than watch soaps. Like sleep. I'm not hooked on any show these days.
7) In 1936, the year this song was popular, the US patent office issued a patent for the Zippo lighter. Beginning in WWII and for decades after, Zippo lighters were issued to our soldiers. During the Vietnam War, troops had their lighters engraved with personal mottos. What's something you have had engraved or personalized? What did it say? I ordered a personalized granddaughter necklace for our oldest granddaughter a few years ago. I can't remember what I had engraved...maybe "I'll love you forever."
8) Also in 1936, a killer tornado struck Tupelo, MS. Have you ever been in a tornado? How about a hurricane or an earthquake? I have been in a tornado and an extremely mild earthquake.
9) Random question -- We're creating an action figure of YOU. What two accessories should we be sure to include in the box? A book and a can of Diet Coke.
Maybe Jackie Chan movies are a guy thing. I know his movies were massive hits, and when I was in Hollywood a couple years ago, fans stopped and posed on his star on the Walk of Fame. But his movies just don't hold my interest.
Fun questions and good answers. Your little granddaughter is just the sweetest! It would be fun to have a video of her saying bye bye and running back for those extra hugs. Someday she will see herself and love that... I've never skateboarded. I value my life too much. LOL. I did roller skate, and even that was "touch and go". None of our 3 sons ever took up skateboarding either, thank the Lord. Scott was a very good roller skater and ice skater. He is still very agile at age 44. I watched All My Children when our first baby was a baby (Benton). I'd put him down for a nap and I would fold diapers and baby clothes while I watched. It was my quiet and peaceful time while he napped. Although I must admit there were days I napped too...but usually not while the show was on. I was hooked at the time. Then one of my strong Christian friends, who also watched it and we would call each other and talk about it afterwards (she also had a baby the same age), she got convicted about watching soaps at a revival meeting, and refused to watch it anymore. That kind of took the fun out of it for me too, since she wouldn't talk about it with me and didn't want me to tell her what was happening. So pretty soon I gave it up as well, but not before I had gotten my parents hooked on it, and they were watching it all the time, so when I'd go visit them I'd get caught up on the latest "news", but never took up watching it again nor any other soap after that. I also was 'convicted". So there you have the story of my big "sins" in life. LOL Have a fun day today...the Tea Party! I hope you have a great time. I'll be thinking of you and praying you meet some wonderful ladies and have a wonderful day.
Conviction is why I never went back to watching soaps when the kids got bigger. I just couldn't justify it and honestly, I've never missed them. The tea party was nice and I'm heading to the church this morning again. I am hopeful I have found my church home.
I love hearing about your granddaughter. How I wish mine had ever acted like that instead of crying because I was arriving. (She's better now that she's a teenager!)
Awww, I'm sure that was tough when your granddaughter was younger. Our older granddaughter has never cried but maybe her indifference is worse. We've never been able to be close to her and now we don't see her at all. :(
Fun answers but I'm sorry that boss was so unkind. Glad you could rise about it (knew you would). God give us so much strength with His love and protection, doesn't He!? Blessings. xx
Eh...I can survive a crappy boss. I've always been more worried about what kind of damage she might be doing with her behavior when she makes such an enormous vocal deal of being a CHRISTIAN.
Grin...I think we all have had or have bosses like that. I am firm believer in what doesn't kill us makes us stronger (and I have to remember that myself, a lot. LOLOL)---Have a great day friend, and thank you for the many smiles.
Leah's comments make me smile so big! (You do have that on video?) From about 1977-1989 I was hooked on Days of our Lives ... and had an absurd adult crush on Stefano DiMeara. One of my best memories ever was getting to spend an afternoon with him when he came to emcee one of our station functions.
I don't have it on video. That little ham stops doing anything cute the minute she senses I'm trying to take a picture or film her. Her mother has a bit more luck, but can't always get stuff, either. A crush on Stefano??? You are the first I've ever heard of to admit to that. I thought Tony was cute, but back then I was ALLLLLLL about Bo!
I love Dirty Dancing. I had that soundtrack. Such a good one. I could easily have a can of Pepsi in my hand for my action figure. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.
I used to drink Pepsi, but I discovered driving the bus that Coke didn't go flat as fast in the heat and bouncing around. Now that I drink diet there is no question. Diet Pepsi is gross!
Right? I'd hear people at work talking and it's still the same people as when I watched. The only difference is their kids are grown up now, too. I was terribly sad, though, about all they put Bo and Hope through over the years. When I was in college and even the first couple of years after I got married they were the epitome of an 80's romantic couple to me. When Hope ran out of her wedding and rode off on the motorcycle with Bo.....swoon!
I used to watch The Guiding Light but then it got really weird and I went to work. Other than Dark Shadows, that was the only soap opera I watched. (I'm not sure Dark Shadows was actually a soap opera.)
That is cute about your grand daughter. I enjoy the video you posted! I was not surprised when you said a book.
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughter sounds like a doll!

His straight kung-fu movies aren't my thing, but his comedies are okay. Not favorites, but entertaining, at least.

DeleteAt the laundromat recently, the TV was on Days of Our Lives and I think the same storylines were still playing out.
